Paint 100 somethings... Horror Theme
-
Ever since I started working digital, I never really used the tools to try and mimic traditional media. Well this weekend I said I am going to learn. So using the 100 somethings challenge, I will do 100 paintings of horror icons. Here are my first 4.

These look great!
-
Very nice!
-
Which program are you using?
-
@judekill Photoshop using the Kyle Webster Filbert Dry Brush and Filbert Dry Mixer Brush.
-
@chip-valecek are those tools add ons?
-
@burvantill If you have Photoshop CC you can download and install all of Kyle Websters brushes for free https://www.kylebrush.com/ There are so many great brushes, however I have created my own over the years that I use all the time. I thought for this project I would use some of his.

Love the โhereโs Jonnyโ one!!!
-
Fun project! I like that you're going for a unified style and color palette between the pieces.
-
Here is number 5. Captain Spaulding.
-
Loving your paintings, keep it up.
-
Those are looking great. I donโt like horror movies, but these are quite nice. Hereโs Johnny really is my favorite too. Layout and coloring really unifies them all. You can totally interchage the set for the ones you want. Great โproductโ as well!

Next up, one of my favorites... Freddy Krueger

@chip-valecek
I'm really loving watching the progress of theseDo you think you might do full face studies at all? It looks like you're on a half face theme, but if you're doing 100 it might be good practice to do full faces to really cement facial features and balance. But it all depends on what you want to get out of this. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.
Either way, I really love how you're trying to capture horror. Do you watch American Horror Story at all?
-
@kaitlinmakes I thought about the full face, but when I decided to challenge myself I thought it would be easier to do just the half and to use a brush I never used. I also try not to "color" but to actually make strokes and if I mess up I don't undo. I wanted to capture all the aspects of traditional but save tons of money on supplies and do it digital.
I do watch American Horror Story, actual Twisty the clown is on my list of characters to paint.

7 of 100 - Regan from The Exorcist

Now that inktober is over I can get back to working on these. I am hoping to do 1 a week (or at least try). Here is one of my all time favorite horror characters. Pinhead!!
-
Getting back to posting these bad guys... Setting up a schedule to hopefully keep me on track. Posting a new horror painting every friday. Here is the next one, Jigsaw from the movies Saw.
-
@Chip-Valecek These are boss. Proper horror show! Would look really good in a panoramic sequence. I love Kyle T Webster brushes, I use his marker pens the most. Are you doing The Tall Man from Phantasm?
-
@Chip-Valecek - I'm loving the painterly style of these. And as others have said, I like the unified color schemes
