Promotional Postcards

I've heard at every conference I've attended that editors love to receive postcards. A couple of them said they don't want to see the same one twice and prefer to see something new about every quarter. Does anyone do this? If so, how many postcards do you send in a mailing? I know it's much less expensive the more you buy, but if you have 500 printed, what do you do with the extras? I sure don't have 500 editors on my list. I would really love to hear any thoughts on this -- thanks!
