Hey everybody. My name is Raphael and I am (or used to be?) a concept artist and illustrator in the game industry, based in Barcelona. I've decided to quit my day job at the game studio to pursue a career in illustration for children's books and young readers, as well as publishing my own stuff.
I have a buffer of clients in the game industry that will keep me afloat for the next several months, but I am shooting for an aggressive goal to cut my umbilical cord with the game industry fast. I'm looking to be represented by an agent with access to US and EU markets by the end of this year.
My main challenge on the technical side is to change styles so I go from what I do now (which works great for fantasy games) to something more suitable to the children's books market. On the marketing side, my difficulties lie in building both a portfolio and a network from basically zero.
It'll be great to share the road with all of you guys, and I hope we can have great and fruitful exchanges along the way.
