WIP help with values

This piece still needs some work but the main thing that has bugged me from the start is getting the values right on the boy. He has dark skin but I need him to stand out more in this rather dark image. Any tips or tricks for making a character pop out more?

Even if he has dark skin, you can use light on him; like a rim light for instance.

Also at the moment his silhouette overlaps with the silhouette of the statue; you might try to separate them and make them well distinct.

Took your advice! I think I’m happy with where the piece is at now but if you have any other feedback I’d love to hear it.
