Hello from Wisconsin!
-
Hello everyone! I just joined SVSLearn and am from Madison, WI. I work full time remote as a Graphic Designer Production and formerly did hair for 13 years. I was selling prints and art on products for two years at local markets and through my website connected to printify. When the pandemic hit, I paused everything, I was also going through school to change to my current career.
Now that I have a stable full time gig, I really want to focus on growing my art skils and finding my art style. I would love to have an art shop again and get into art licensing, creating characters, designing book covers - all of it. I have a lot of imposter syndrome and know it will be a long journey and hopefully have dedicate myself to the SVS courses.
https://www.instagram.com/jamieseroogyart/ this is my instagram and as you can see, I am ALL over the place. I am also really hard on myself about what I can currently do and it's really hard looking at other amazing art - knowing I should not compare. I was never consistent, I have drawn off and on my whole life but never made it a consistent practice. I never thought I could do anything with it so I didn't go after it. Now, it's all I think about.
Looking forward to this group and reviewing everyones projects and gaining tips or advice!

@Jamie-Seroogy hey! Welcome I am so excited for you to take the leap of faith and really get into art. I have been doing a similar thing and often have similar feelings. I think a lot of us probably do.
I do want to say that I think your art is cute, and the things you feel you are missing in your art I am sure you can definitely learn, you have such a great background to jump off from I bet excelling will happen really fast for you I sure am glad we have such great resources and people to learn from. And I am Excited to see us all continue to become better at art one step after the other. -
@Jamie-Seroogy Welcome! You're definitely in the right place. This is a supportive community. I love that you're pursuing your dream and I can relate to doing this after having another career. You have a great background to draw from (pun intended ) and going through the SVS courses will help.

Hi Jamie! Welcome to SVS, I think you've made a great choice in becoming a student of this platform, it has taught me and many others a lot, and will certainly help you obtain the focus you for which you are looking!
It's a pleasure to meet you here, as I'm also originally from Wisconsin. I went to college at UW-Milwaukee but seriously considered attending MIAD instead.
I come back to Wisco semi frequently and would love to meet a fellow illustrator if we are ever in the same area at the same time! We could grab a cup of coffee and sketch and talk all things art

Welcome @Jamie-Seroogy!

@MerryMary Thank you so much for the encouragement and complement. So far I am really enjoying the videos, I am starting from the very beginning and going through the fundamentals, right now on the perspective lesson in the fundamentals course - which is important but hard to focus on sometimes lol

@Sara-Therese-Art Thank you for your encouraging words!

@Kristen-Lango I would love that, where do you live now? I will follow you on Instagram. A friend and I have started having "art nights" where we hang out and draw and that's been lovely. We dream of owning a space that we could rent out to other artists, have events, etc. I have no idea how to get that going lol
First have to get the art down!

@Jeremy-Ross thank you!

@Jamie-Seroogy That sounds amazing! I've long had the dream of a shared space like that too. There is actually this thing called Northern Arts Collective in Door County, it's in the shop that my grandmother used to own, and they are a shared space for artists to sell their work, but I think it's more fine arts.
But being as though you're in Wisco, I assume you might know of Door County and I definitely recommend checking it out.
I live in the Houston area now. Thanks for the follow! Let's keep in touch!

@Kristen-Lango I definitely do know Door County, love it. I took a Figure Drawing Workshop for a weekend there this past July, it was so much fun!
