Must have children´s book for personal collection?

Hello!
What are your favourite children´s book? Classics, new and old?
As much as for my 6 month old daughter but also for myself
I want to get started on a children´s book collection for our bookshelf. I am living in Iceland where books are super expensive and children´s books even more so (25$+ for a book) so my plan is to put a list of 10-15 books together that I will buy when we go abroad next month. I want to make a list, otherwise I will spend either days in the book shop trying to decide, or I will walk out with 50 books...What are books that inspire you or you love because of the story or illustrations?
I already got Sendak´s Where the Wild Things Are and Ryan T Higgins Mother Bruce (I love the humour) and Jon Klaasen (Extra Yarn and/or The Dark) on the list.
I had made a list some time ago of illustrators and books that Jake & Co recommend in their podcasts but I cannot find it any more... So I am looking forward to hear what your favourites are

@Mel-F I would include any book (Ms. Hazeltine’s home for she and fearful cats is great) by Birgitta Sif! She’s Icelandic, so she could bring some local flavor to your shelves. I love Birgitta’s style, and her character posing is amazing.

Strega Nona and Go Dog Go were always my favorites as a child.

Also love the illustration style and the story is really funny!

@MimiHecher I think that Tomi Ungerer is essential to any children's book collection. My favorites as a child were Crictor and the Beast of Monsieur Racine, but the Three Bandits and Moon Man are also classics.
I also agree with Strega Nona, another one of my favorites growing up.
I also loved all the Pere Castor collections, in particular some like Poule Rousse by Etienne Morel and Roule Galette by Natha Caputo

That book looks great! And the style is absolutely lovely. Haven´t heard of Birgitta before.
Dad is a cat lover, so I think he will approve this for night time stories. Thanks for the recommendation -
The Monster at the End of This Book was my favorite as a kid, and continues to be one of my favorites. It's one of the first picture books to break the fourth wall.
If you're looking for more Ryan T. Higgins recommendations (he's one of my all-time favorites), We Don't Eat Our Classmates and Hey, Bruce! are excellent. (And I think they're funnier than Mother Bruce.)
We Don't Eat Our Classmates is about Penelope Rex, the only dinosaur in a class full of human kids.
Hey, Bruce! features the mice from the Mother Bruce series -- they're going to write an interactive book and decide Bruce is going to help ... all Bruce wants to do is take a nap.

I will recommend all the books from Kobi Yamada. They are so full of truth and also comes to the point of what is really important. i gave some of his books as a present to some of my friends.

i am really in love.I would reccomend Shaun Tan most of his work.

@Mel-F The Eleventh Hour by Graeme Base as well as his other animal books. The illustrations are completely gorgeous, and I loved looking at all of the animals as a child.

@Mel-F When I was a kid I loved Mo Williams, specifically his “Elephant and Piggie” books. I just love how the art in them are so simple. Ryan T. Higgins is one of my favorites as well.
