Licensing art for Stickers etc...

Hey all - I still have 3 kids books to flush out but I've been MIA working on my adult webcomic and art book. Thought I'd jump in here to see if anyone had some advice on a licensing thing:
I've been contacted to create art of the clients original Characters. They then want to put the art on stickers and keychains to sell and give to their readers. (this is a fairly successful self published author.)
Can someone point me in the right direction? This is licensing, right? I mean it's their character in the book but they are hiring me to create an actual image of the characters.
Any advice/help would be appreciated.

@KatrinaF I don't have any personal experience in this sort of thing, but from what I've heard I would guess, yes, this is licensing, and the contract and pay should reflect this. Especially if the author is experiencing success.
