Portfolio Wips and 100 things list
-
I've jotted down the 100 things I like to draw, and now that summer is winding down, and my kids will be back in school, I'm going to really focus on building a portfolio that's as strong as I can make it.
Here's my list of 100 things, and this post will be a bit of a journal into creating my portfolio!

Nice list! Thanks for inspiring me to finish mine, lol, I’ve only got about twenty!
-
WIP, I’m working on rendering the doodle I did the other night. I’m thinking it’s going to be a spot illo.
-
@Asyas_illos it’s really interesting to see it in writing. And breaking it into the 5 columns, I’m going to try for 20 illustrations, that encompass at least one of each column.
-
@AngelinaKizz oh nice!
-
That's a great list! Can't wait to see all the work! The first rendered illustration is very cute
-
@Stephanie-H thanks so much!

I’m trying for loose lines, and texture… I’d love to hear if this is working or if it’s too busy/messy.
-
@AngelinaKizz This is too adorable, I love the quality of your lines.
I would say, though, that I think the background texture pulls too much attention from the image, and has my eyes bouncing around a bit too much. I think making the background a bit more structured rather than broken, and maybe adding just a touch of some other texture if you feel it needs it to not feel flat (maybe you could do a super transparent floral or something to suggest wallpaper?) would make the image stronger. So like - strong yes on the texture of your subjects, but maybe rethink your background.
-
@mia-clarke thanks Mia! I'll play with the background!
-
@AngelinaKizz @mia-clarke took the words straight from my mouth! If you want to texturize, one or the other should be less so, otherwise it gets a bit crazy. It’s hard to find the right balance there.
-
@Asyas_illos thankyou! I appreciate the feedback. It’s been a challenge to let go and be loose… and you’re both right that the background is a distraction!
-
This seems like such a great exercise.even just for the sake of getting creative juices flowing it’s great to have something like this to reference to. Also, I love that you have magic under your emotions category
-
@Griffin-McPherson thanks Griffin. I'm hoping I call pull of 20 illustrations with at least one film each category, for a well rounded start to a portfolio.
