Gearing up to submit to agents.. eek
-
Hey Guys!
I submitted to a few agents this summer, but had to put it on hold due to some health issues with one of my kiddos. I am spending time in January trying to fill gaps in my portfolio to begin submitting again at the beginning of February. If you would be willing to look at my portfolio and offer feedback that would be amazing! My website is https://www.annaaronsondraws.com/
What I think is… I need:
More multi person images
More diversity
More interiors and/ cityscapes
More historical pieces (because I am interested in that)
I need to add to the projects page- because I haven’t added the projects I have don’t recentlyDo you have any thoughts? Whether you have been through the process or not- feedback is very much appreciated!
Thanks!
- Anna

@annaaronson I think your actually good on all of those I saw diversity and there are plenty of interiors and multi person pics too. I think you could use more animals though, anthropomorphic even would be cool. Maybe show another color range? As it stands, your portfolio is pretty solid, are all of these from one story in specific? Good luck!

@annaaronson Hi Anna, Your work is great! There are really some nice pieces in your portfolio. I'm no expert but I noticed the following:
- First, I think it would be really helpful that you can click on the images to be larger.
- Maybe a couple of black and white images?
- Maybe some more animals?
- Grouping images of the same story together (but maybe not more than 4?)
Good luck!

Hi @annaaronson, I would say your portfolio is solid enough now to submit to agents.
I like how your work is consistent throughout and colors are pleasing to the eye.
Have you taken the Portfolio Perfection course on SVS? It’s a great course where Will, Lee and Jake discuss 100+ items to include in your portfolio (not 100 images).
The examples are great and discussion is helpful. I recently took it over the weekend and currently working on improving my own portfolio.
Best of luck landing an agent!

@jeremy-ross is it called portfolio perfection? Do you know which section it’s under? I’d like to see it too but I can’t seem to find I it I haven’t done a search yet so I’ll try that
-
@jeremy-ross I found a podcast that’s “building a strong portfolio” is that what you are referring to?

Your portfolio is so gorgeous and is looking pretty well rounded already. I'll throw in a few ideas that I would love to see in your style, and think would be good additions to your portfolio though!
A full color landscape featuring the ocean or maybe an underwater scene.
A piece with stormy weather/rain.
A zoomed out landscape/cityscape at night
A sweetshop/bakery/flowershop interior.
A female historical figure.
A piece with just animals as the main focus.

Hi @asyas_illos, it’s called “How to Perfect your Children’s Book Portfolio”. Just do a search for portfolio in the courses page.

@jeremy-ross I got thanks!

@Asyas_illos awesome! Thank you! yeah I am definitely a little shaky on animals- more of those would be good! These are from different projects
@joosterwijk Thanks! I agree about the layout. I am using Squarespace and its pretty user friendly, but I feel like the size of the images keeps changing and the layout is really different depending upon the device. Animals and black and white- definitely.
@Jeremy-Ross I read this earlier and I watched that class RIGHT away! SO helpful. Thank you for suggesting!
@TessaW SUCH great suggestions- I want to do them all. lol. Underwater would be so fun to do
Seriously, thank you guys for taking the time to look at my portfolio. SUPER helpful. I will share as I keep adding!
