Weeding Out the Pretenders
-
Quick question: When someone follows you on social media and the account has, say, one post and maybe three followers, do you keep that follower or delete him/her? Technically, it adds to the follower count, but how valuable is that follower to you reaching your goals? Can't wait to hear your opinions!

Hello! I wouldn't delete someone just because they don't post often. They might be following, liking and otherwise engaging with your or other accounts even though they aren't posting their own stuff. I don't see why their lack of activity on their own account would necessarily mean they aren't active.
Also, Instagram does weed out "spam" accounts on its own, so if you were worried about that they will eventually disappear on their own.

I wouldn't worry too much. I get some new followers every once in a while that might either be spam or an influencer looking for that "follow you so you'll follow me, then I'll unfollow you" crap. It makes me sad that it's not a genuine follower, but I try to put it our of my mind and know that they eventually weed themselves out. Try not to be so concerned about how quickly you're building followers...I've been at this a good 2-3 years and still have under 200 followers. It's slow growth, so I focus more on being proud of the content that I put out there.
