Inkjet vs Laser
-
Hi guys
Advice needed from people who sell prints. I have opened an online shop where I sell posters for kids, a combination of text and illustrations. I am printing in my local shop, where they use laser printer. I'm happy with the outcome, and with the paper I have chosen (A3 silk coated 250g paper).
In the future, I am planning to buy my own printer, and most of the advice I've seen on the web for the printer is set on inkjet. I do see that mostly photographers and people who sell their own prints use inkjet printers, and I was wondering whether laser would be better option considering I have text on my prints? As well, I don't consider my prints to be art prints, and they don't have as much details. I have more of a flat style with subtle details. Also, most of the local shops print calendars (that include photographs), brochures....with laser, most probably because is faster and cheaper.
Would you guys recommend going with laser or inkjet? I have to say that a big downfall of an inkjet is the cost of a paper, as I'd like to use a coated one, which would basically be a photo paper, and they are crazy expensive.
I am new to the printing world and any advice would be helpful . -

Most artists use inkjet because they have a wider color range for cmyk colors and are archival quality if you use the right inks. So for things like calendars they aren't meant to be around for long periods of time and it's no big deal if they fade down the road.

My understanding was that laser could NOT achieve archival level quality ink. Is that actually true?
