Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some feedback on this character design I'm working on for my portfolio. Looking to improve this in any way that I can. I'm struggling with colours the most.

He's a fisherman bear. The colours choices are inspired by the colours of salmon, which this guy is going to be fishing for. I'm planning on doing a side view, some expressions and some props to go with him on a sheet.

      Thanks 🙂

@brettb_draws I didn't guess he was a fisherman before reading your description. I thought that he could be a lumberjack, I think because the shirt looks like it could be flannel.

my initial ideas that could help are maybe making the waders look shinier so they're more obviously rubbery, making his hat more obviously a fisherman's hat (or maybe a baseball cap) and potentially giving him one of those sleeveless jacket things with all the pockets. The props will definitely help though so you could just add those first and then see what you think.

He looks like someone with a lot of stories. Keep going, we'd love to see more of him!

I think it's looking good! The main thing that popped out to me was the scar, it goes under his eyebrow which is a little weird, makes his eyebrows feel like stickers.

Were you planning on having it so his eyes aren't visible? It reminds me a bit of the dad in Luca. When you get to expressions I'd recommend looking at how they handled his

@NicolaSchofield @idid @carlianne Thank you for the feedback! This was really helpful 🙂 I've added some more subtle implications of him being a fisherman on his clothes and added a bit more shine in areas. I'm still gonna be improving him as I continue with this sheet and I'll be posting more updates here. Thanks again !!

@carlianne Yeah the eye's are supposed to be super small and covered by his eyebrows. I wanted to make him look pretty rough and tired, they'll be more visible with certain facial expressions. I see what you mean about Luca, I loved that movie !! I looked at the dad from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs originally but the dad from Luca is even better, thanks 🙂

One little comment from me. I thought his eyebrows were sunglasses because they are both the same size, straight across from each other and the line consistancy is the same all the way around. Perhaps a break up/variety in the lines or shape would help to read them more as eyebrows. Looks like his voice would sound like Eeyore!
