Critiques Welcome!

Hello!
Here is my most recent "finished" piece. Any and all critiques are welcome! I'd like to know what three things you all think I should focus on mainly to improve. I appreciate you taking a look! Love this community to pieces!

@aprilshin Great work, April! I really like your character designs and the rendering is great too. Here are some things you can focus on:
-
Lighting and shadow: I like how you're experimenting with lighting. Maybe study a little further on those aspects? Mainly, if you are showing a beam of sunlight, there should also be highlights seen on the objects that the beam is hitting and cast shadows created because of it. These little details can really make a piece pop.
-
Composition - The rule of thirds is one of the easiest rules to follow to get a good composition. Had the main subject not been dead in the center with equal space around it from all sides, it may have created a more interesting composition.
-
Storytelling - This is still a sweet piece and I like it very much. And not every piece needs to tell a story, but it definitely makes it more interesting if it does!
Hope to see more of your work! Keep it up!

@Neha-Rawat Thank you so much, Neha! I'm totally seeing what you're talking about now. I'm going over the Painting Color and Light class right now and it goes over exactly what you're saying in #1! I just need the lessons to stick to my brain, lol. Thank you for taking the time to critique my work. I really appreciate it!

@aprilshin I actually have the same list as Neha! For me though storytelling or concept is number one, then composition and then lighting.
I think the color works nicely, I also like how you're experimenting with light and the characters are really cute.
I think if you were to take this which is a great base and show some kind of story or interaction or more emotion it could be really impactful! The visual story telling class is especially great if you need more ideas.
But it's super cute, nice work!

@carlianne Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction! It's strangely reassuring that the critiques are on the same things. It makes it easier for me to really focus on what I need to improve. Thank you, Carlianne, for your help!
