Manage your development from day 1

hi guys. I'm new to SVS Learn. just wondering as I am starting how would you manage your development through the levels? For example I'm at Level 1 Foundations. learning the fundamentals of art. how long or how much do we spend per level? Is it until i can draw a circle perfectly? should I be thinking about being perfect? i don't mind spending a whole year just on level 1. but I'd like to know when i should or could know that i am ready to move to level 1 Basic Perspective and so on and so forth. is there a mark or a point when you know your are ready to move on? i am not looking for a quick fix. i'm in for the long. i know it's hard and will be tough for me because I'm not the young kid who draw everyday about 15 years ago! and it's on me to own my project and develop as a an artist. thanks

@blackhound-rise I would say that you move on when you feel comfortable with all of the concepts. It's going to be different for everyone, so only you can be the judge of when you feel ready to progress.

@blackhound-rise in general PLEASE don't focus on being perfect! Perfection is an illusion and especially as you're in the foundations, it will create a huge amount of self doubt.

@lpetiti Absolutely agree about the 'perfect' trap. After seeing how easily Jake pulls off a building with the basic shapes it seems so easy, then I try and I struggle so much. I link the lessons to things I want to make. It's mighty frustrating I can't just pull off something that looks good. But creating something i wouldn't have managed otherwise is what sort of makes me think im progressing. Sometimes I take different courses and then I keep coming back to the previous ones to trying to integrate it all in creating things. Good luck and looking forward to see your work!

I've been working in the Foundations curriculum for a while now and it seems to me like I do better going through a class, spending some time working on the assignments and then, moving on to the next class where I'll inevitably come back to the previous classes prompts to adjust or try again with new energy

I feel like I'll be going over the foundational concepts for years to come (which is good with me!)

Just lean in to whatever method of learning that works best for you and +1 to the others here who note to avoid the perfectionism trap!!

@blackhound-rise totally agree with what everyone else said. As far as time spent on each class, you might try this approach: work your way through the first class, do all the assignments and do your best, but don't worry too much if it's not perfect. Then go onto the next class, and do the same thing. Keep working through The basics like this. If at any point you get to a class where you are really struggling with something then it might be time to assess what you've learned so far and maybe go back and repeat a class or two. So much of mastering art is practice, practice, practice, and learning is cumulative. You will be practicing those same skills you learned in the very beginning classes as you move onto more advanced classes. Good luck! Feel free to post assignments as you work on them.
