    • RE: MARCH ILLUSTRATION CONTEST: OLD AND NEW

Alright friends, well maybe soon to be friends I guess... I've only posted on the forums like once, but I follow a few of you on instagram with @zacharyryan_art. Anyway, this is all new to me. I mean like almost all of it. Illustrating, digital stuff, learning to draw again. I've been watching classes quite a bit and super grateful for this site. So here is my entry. I immediately thought of the 1979 bright yellow Lada I drive here in Slovakia, and then inspired by one of my favorite movies, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, but then it ended up looking like the magic school bus hahaha! Didn't realize it till I did the sky blue. 0_1522434705678_Untitled_Artwork.jpg

    • RE: Episode 6: Listener Q&A

Just want to say awesome job guys! It's so fun to listen to the three of you and laugh along with some things and get so much information and inspiration all at the same time! I feel like I'm legit sitting down with you guys and hanging out haha. Hopefully I'll get to meet all of you in person at some point in my life. For now it'll just be Jake in New York πŸ™‚

    • RE: Episode 14: Comic Cons & Art Fairs

Guys this episode was amazing! Honestly as a new guy starting out in all this illustration stuff I feel like this is great stuff to know right from the start. It has given me the idea to work on some fun creative fan art while also developing my own stuff. I'm in Slovakia and there aren't so many comic cons in driving distance haha, but there are quite a few european ones in flying distance πŸ™‚ Anyway, we'll see how it goes in the future and maybe by next year I'll have the skill and stock to do something!

On another note, I overheard in the podcast you guys would put links or descriptions about what personal printers and papers and things you use for making your own prints? I know for bulk it's nice to go somewhere. I'm not really doing bulk at the moment, and I can't find any place near me that doesn't do those cheap prints that will fade within a year. So I was hoping to get thoughts on printers and paper and supplies for home.

      Thanks again!

    • New York Power Day Workshop

Is anyone else going to the workshop in Long Island? I'll be in the US for a month and I decided to go to it, but I'm trying to find if anyone else is going and would be interested in sharing accommodation since Long Island isn't so cheap haha.

    • Scanner suggestions and print websites

Ok so this is all still new to me just so everyone knows πŸ™‚ I’ve only been learning this whole illustrating thing for about the past month. Before that I watched Jakes robots course and also How To Draw Everything. I’ve drawn most of my life here and there for fun. Now it’s getting real πŸ™‚ I am doing a traditional watercolor style with some copic pens as well and I’m wondering about a scanner to scan my stuff and upload for sites to make prints for me to sell. So I guess two questions. Do you have any budget friendly scanner recommendations for someone just starting? And are there any sites you’d recommend for making prints? I live in Slovakia right now but a lot of people in the US will end up buying from me. And I don’t have a good place to make legit scans. This is why I ask πŸ™‚

    • RE: Resources for learning a specific illustrating style?

Thank you for all the replies thus far! @Lee-White I actually just finished watching those videos last night πŸ™‚ Very helpful! So thank you for making those. With that being said, and having that idea of what I'm looking for, do you have any resources I should check out? or perhaps artist similar in style? I've tried to contact Luke about where and who he is inspired by but no reply yet. Maybe the guy who creates Bone comics, I guess even some of @Jake-Parker stuff from Little Bot, is similar. If you guys have any ideas let me know! Basically simple, expressive, inked and watercolored, animals. Even if its just inked stuff for now I can add watercolors on my own. Or if there are other classes that also might help me be inspired in that area πŸ™‚

    • Resources for learning a specific illustrating style?

Hello! Well I'm mostly new here. I've used SVS a little bit and loved it so far, and will be back on it soon hopefully! I was just approached about a possible book/watercolor idea by a friend and we've been throwing around different ideas. Anyway, I'm not a professional illustrator, I never went to school for art, I've just always done it πŸ™‚ I'm always learning new things and I love it. With that little intro here is my question/topic:

I'm looking for any resources to illustrate animals for a children's book, but not the disney looking style that so many resources and tutorials teach. Something more sketchy and simple perhaps that would go well with watercolors exploding everywhere πŸ™‚ I came across one artist who's stuff I really enjoy. His name is Luke Scriven if you want to get some ideas of his work. http://www.illustrationweb.com/artists/LukeScriven/view
Animals with dots for eyes and simple details and so on. I'm sure the best answer is probably "look at the animal drawing courses and learn your own style" which I'm definitely going to do. I was just wondering if anyone had any specific drawing books or videos that could help me to learn that style or similar to it. Perhaps you know some other artists I could check out who do something similar. Any tips and comments are welcomed, and thank you all!
