Hi all, I'm looking for a review of my portfolio to see if I'm on the right track. I want to do picture books. Do my illustrations show that, or do I need to work on redesigning my characters and style? If you don't think it looks like picture book illustration, what area of illustration do you think it would be fit for (if any)? I haven't won any of the contests, but then again I don't think I've been a subscriber for any of those, so I imagine that has a lot to do with it, but I don't know if I'm on the right track at all. Am I? What do you all think? Here's a link direct to my portfolio: https://twiggyt.com/lothar/standard/

@Aaron_T @TessaW I thought I'd have it glow, sort of like the essence in The Dark Crystal. Maybe that would be enough. Thanks for your feedback!

I like both ideas. If you choose to do the robot, I like the one with the girl on it's shoulder and kids all around. The flamingo would be a lot of fun.

Hi Tracy, I like your image! The colors seem very fitting for the reflective nature of the image. Subdued and tranquil is good. Nice job! Su

Hi Twiggy, I think the site is cute and the about me page is really fun! I would add few pictures into the gallery, but that's not necessary I think.

I love that image hehe. I used to have geese and ducks and they are amazing and it so captures their way Rie Cramer is also from the Golden Age, actually in the https://pierangelo-boog.blogspot.com/ website he has a huge long list of illustrators and images that you can browse through from many periods

Day 25: Santa Well, that's the last day of Piigvember. Piigvember has helped me get comfortable working with digital pencils, so that's a good thing. I don't know if posting daily helped my social media accounts any, but I feel like it did help fill those out a little. Plus, I think it inspired at least one friend to draw every day, so that's pretty cool.

@twiggyt Trust me, I know the feeling. I am “newer” to illustration....we to the extent I am doing so now. I have found it helpful to workout as much as I can in advance. On projects with complex lighting scenerios, I try to work out the shadows in the 2nd or 3rd pass on my presketch. It saves me the headache of when color starts to confuse me. Ha I have done the same...acquiesce to simpler light source.

@twiggyt Not sure! Maybe it doesn't even matter. You could always just take your own reference photos for hand and arm positioning. It personally looks a bit awkward to me, and when I try to put my arms and hands in the same position, it feels awkward as well. The left arm (his right) looks pinned against his torso, the right arm (his left) is jutting out at a high angle. This position feels a bit nonsensical for this situation, even if you are stylizing the gesture. I also think his ear still looks like it's growing out of his cheek. Perhaps it's only distracting to me. One last thought- maybe adding a hint of fingernails would polish off the piece? Even if those things are distracting to me, it's still an appealing image overall. I like the format change and you did a great job tackling this lighting situation.

Hello, I signed up for the forums here last fall, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how I logged in. After sending password recovery e-mails to both my e-mail addresses, I finally just made a new account. So..um, hi again! Annnnnnyway, I wanted to at least attempt an image for the travel theme. Anyway, here it is so far: I came up with this because I asked myself, "What would happen if you stuck a chinchilla in knight's armor?" And then I thought the chinchilla should be riding a llama. And then I thought he should be with a wild cavy riding a vicuna and they should be Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Not that I've read Don Quixote (yet), but I saw that episode of Wishbone about it (#old). Any feedback is welcome. Twiggy
