@theprairiefox I think you nailed the concept! Rebirth of a forest habitat after a fire - a true silver lining.

@davidhohn Thanks for the reference. That will help with this particular problem I am working on. It provides me a few different insights into other approaches. I was leaning heavily in my mind toward something 'Sequential' with frames, but this gives me a few other ideas to try in thumbnailing.

@Johanna-Kim & @carolinebautista I was able to fix the eye in photoshop! I also fixed in on the paper version but Photoshop saved me having to redo everything through the process. I hope you like it! I am posting it now...

@TessaW & @Braxton thanks for the responses. I have to agree that I think the prairie has a more isolating feel. I am going to go with that one. I did retake the picture one last time (I thought the girl wasn't straight enough. Here is the 'final final'!

Here are the finals. I added some detail but not too much as the age group has a very wide range. If nothing else my boys have enjoyed coloring them already!

@Jon-Anderson & @Justin-Moss thanks for the feedback. I got very similar feedback from my local feedback group (my boys 9,11, & 13) It is good to hear it from others as well. I will keep playing and see what I can do. I will keep you posted.

I finally got back to my book dummy. I am working on the 3rd double spread of it. Check out the first two below: The Barn Thread Potatoes Thread This page is one of the first pages and is introducing the setting (the farm) and one of the characters coming onto the scene. Text: (could be split or on the same page) She came the year of the Great Famine. The warlords had destroyed much of the land and what they didn’t, drought had dried up. Being far from any village, our farm was spared destruction. Even so, we had barely enough food for the winter. Keywords: Lonely, small, distant, cold I want to give the feeling of being far away and separated. Here are 3 value sketches: Let me know which you think best fits and why (if you know the reason you like it.)

@Heather-Boyd the tongue would have been fun! Oh well, next time... I understand the intersecting of the windows. I also needed to pay attention to the snow not filling the whole depth as it would only be on the outside of the pane of glass. I hope that made sense as well...

@animatosoor thanks. It has been really fun AND I am learning a lot. It has has been very informative to learn how each illustrator handles differences in sex, age, situation, species, etc. And it some of that has gone into how I have been approaching characters in my world-building as well. For example, most of the illustrators have much larger heads on their children than their adults. The adults tend to be proportioned 'closer' to reality (usually still very exaggerated but closer.) I have decided to do the same thing in my style. Children's heads are wider and their bodies are 1:1 with the head. For adults, I am using round heads and their bodies are usually 1.5x-2x the head height. For another project, I am building out fantasy races and this comes even more into play as I am using proportions to help define the races. It is nice when one project informs and reinforces another project... got to love synergy.

@xin-li can't wait to see it! I am new to all of this (have been doing printmaking for about a year now) and silkscreen is on my list of technics to learn. I love the looseness and texture that traditional printmaking provides. Such a rich quality...

Just figured out a better way to scan. The colors were all off because the paper is so thin. I put wood behind the paper instead of the normal white backing. So much better!

@juliepeelart good thoughts on the bear. After reviewing, I think I got the perspective on the bear incorrect. It should look taller, the base should be wider and the head smaller. I will clean that up. @Gary-Wilkinson I like where you are going with the the thumbnails. I did a few thumbs and picked this one (the value study is a thumbnail blown up.) I partially wanted the challenge of the perspective. I think that the perspective is correct for most of image though as @juliepeelart pointed out the bear is not adhering to the perspective and I would get a greater impact if it did. I am using some reference photos as well. Thank you both for your feedback, I will update as I move on.
