    • RE: Character Consistency Practice - Feedback Welcomed

@Judy-Elizabeth-Wilson Thank you! I do use a lot of reference when drawing hands. There are still some negative expressions I have to draw, and I'll think about changing the outfits a bit on a next one.

Hi guys, here's another one. This is Mylo and he loves to play pirates 🙂 . I tried to add some new expressions/emotions, although there are still some left to do (scared, disgusted...).

    • Laptop Changes Colour Profile When Cintiq is Connected

      Hi guys 🙂
I have a calibrated display both on my laptop and Cintiq (PRO 16). My Laptop loads the correct colour profile, but when I turn on the Cintiq, the colours on my laptop screen slightly change. I can see in the settings that the colour profile has remained the same, but there is a slight of a change in the colours on the screen. Does anyone else have this problem?
I'm not sure whether this is up to the graphic card, I'm not really good at these things, but this is how my settings looks like:

      NVidia.jpg

I've looked into Wacom forums to find a solution, but didn't have much luck, except finding put that other people had the same issue.

    • RE: How do you know when something is done?

Lovely illustration @Matthew-Oberdier 🙂 . I do agree it's very hard to know when a piece is finished, but I heard a great advice (on a podcast long time ago I believe), that when you don't have anything to add, or anything to take away from the illustration, then you know you are finished.

    • RE: Serious critique requested - Halloween Feast submission

It's a really great piece, but looking at it at first, I got confused by the witch on the right side. Especially her hand covering the face, I couldn't see at first which direction her face is looking at. I think it's because the colour of her green hand, green face and green hair (or really thin dark hair on green face), are of the pretty much the same value. I think the advice with the lighting could also help with this.

    • RE: Feedback welcome.

Hi @erinrew , lovely illustration. I just think the body angle of the raccoon Santa is slightly off. I think it's just the way the hand is stretched.
If I'm really going into the details, it's a bit unusual that there is a fire burning upon only one wood - maybe adding some more? It looks like a really clean fireplace.

    • RE: Portfolio update

      Looks perfect to me!
If I may point out 2 typos in your ''About'' page, they might even not be typos, but someone who is a native English speaker would probably know better:

      • Paragraph 1, Line 1: ''Hi! My name is Vanessa and I'm a children illustrator - should it be ''children's illustrator''?

      • Paragraph 3, Line 4: ''...along with a variety of other work in educational and editorial.'' - I feel there is a word missing after ''educational and editorial'', maybe market? As in ''educational and editorial market''.

I hope it's okay to mention these, the whole page is absolutely perfect, but these two little things just caught my eye.

@Miranda-Branley Thank you! It's a good idea what you mentioned about clothing, but I did wanted to make her wear just a dress. Usually when you see girls wearing a dress, they are either playing with dolls or having a tea party, so I wanted to draw a girl that wears a dress, but also likes more ''boyish'' things (hate that I even have to use the word ''boyish'' 🙂 ).

    • Character Consistency Practice - Feedback Welcomed

Hi guys! I previously posted my portfolio and was given advice to include different face and body angles, so I've decided to practice a bit by creating 6 different poses (I will include other emotions as well on future characters) for a character. For this one I thought of a girl who likes fixing things, building, and playing of course. I try to avoid the stereotypical roles of boys and girls, although she is purposely wearing a dress.
Does it seems like the same character to you, are the consistency and body angles right?

Sketches, as I always like to see those from other illustrators 🙂

    • RE: Portfolio update

The portfolio is just briliant so there's no much I can say 😃 . But I think the Menu (including your logo and name) can be improved.
I agree with what @Neha-Rawat said, and I would maybe just mention few ideas:

      • When clicking on the ''My Work'' and then having to choose from 3 different categories, maybe just put them in the Menu itself? Something like www.rachaelmclean.com website, as she has ''Illustration'' and ''Books'' in the Menu

      • Putting ''My Work'' first in the Menu, and then ''About'' and ''Contact'', I think this is more common

      • Maybe put your social links to all pages (it's only on ''Contact'' now)

    • RE: Consistency in characters

Stumbled upon this older thread while I was searching for keywords ''character consistency'', and just to leave it here as it might help someone, it seems that Preston Blair's book ''Cartoon Animation'' is available as pdf online - https://archive.org/details/PrestonBlairCartoonAnimation

    • RE: NEED HELP- Having Cintiq Troubles Again

Maybe there is a computer shop close by where you can bring your laptop and Cintiq, and ask them to try some of USB-C cables that they sell. I did that once when I was trying out to get 4K, the people in the computer shop gave me multiple cables to just try them, without having to actually buy them if they don't work.

    • RE: NEED HELP- Having Cintiq Troubles Again

I would definitely just buy a new cable, even if it was in water for a second, I don't think it would be a good idea to plug it into Cintiq (especially if one of the heads of the cable that goes into Cintiq was in water). I'm not sure whether this might have damaged the Cintiq, but I hope evrything works out with a new cable.

    • RE: Sending illustrator submissions to publishers via email - PDF or JPEGs?

Thank you all for the input so far! 🙂 Of course, there are some publishers that state on the website to send either PDF or JPEGs specifically, but I just wanted to check the best solution when there's nothing mentioned.

    • Sending illustrator submissions to publishers via email - PDF or JPEGs?

      Hi guys 🙂 ,

Since there are many experienced illustrators here, thought I should just check a little detail. I'm about to start sending submissions to publishers, and a lot of them do have a contact listed on the website to send a submission to. My question is - should I send a single PDF with 10-12 images of my work, or less images as separates JPEGs?

    • RE: Postcard Crit/Advice?

Something I've read about postcards and whether to write your name/website in front: it was mentioned that art directors might just pin them on a board (wall), so when they glance at them, it might be good that you name/website is something they can immediately see. I remember seeing this in one article, and it seemed like an interesting point to me 🙂 .

    • RE: Who's doing Inktober 2020, and what are your plans?

I will be doing Tim Burton characters 🙂 . I never actually follow the promt list, I just want do to something I would really enjoy, as I don't think I make enough illustrations, so making 31 little ones just encourages me for ahead. I already started sketching them (here's a little sneak peek), and I'll be colouring them as the pumpkins illo on the right.

    • RE: Portfolio Advice Needed

Hi guys, it's been some time since I posted, but a work project came in ☺ .
I finished the piece, but changed a little detail - the path of the house, and I'm not sure whether this would be a problem with the text.
Do you think that the text on the right side of the illustration (with the witch on it) is hard to read?
I know it would be much better if the text was placed just on the meadow, so would this situation be a big no-no?
