RE: Choosing the best computer for a Cintiq
I think the only specific thing to make sure is that it has a usb c port. (If you are getting the newest ones)
I know some people have had issues getting the 4k to display on the new cintiqs if you don't have a usb c port. (they have an adaptor but its not reliable)
Also desktops (pc or mac) give your more powerful specs for the price compared to laptops, if you want a mac buy a refurbished one from apple, save a bit of $$!
my two cents

RE: What im learning at my SVA residency
How exciting! I've never heard of this residency? Was it a grant/application process or a continuation of your undergrad or?
Its nice to have mentors at your disposal to really give you that boost, sounds awesome!

RE: New business launch!
Thank you for sharing, your detailed step by step has me thinking about how I could do something similar.
I have a suggestion for you as well, you might want to consider selling on gumroad.com as well. Itβs really popular for digital artists content (like tutorials etc.) and the fees are super low . Iβm not sure what the fees are on Etsy these days but I remember them being pretty high for physical products.
Is the digital only clip art market big?

RE: The quest for a good smudge brush (PS)
@CLCanadyArts i will try that, thanks!
@Nyrryl-Cadiz no worries, thanks!
@MichaelaH thanks for sharing, sounds like the smudge isn't that popular for most people, so i may not invest a lot of time trying to make it work lol

RE: How to Social Media
Great timing as i just finished watching the SVS classes on personal branding and social media! All 3 combined and i feel like I've got a really solid grasp!! Thank you!
Any thoughts on separating your art accounts? I am thinking about making a separate instagram solely for my children's book illustration, since my current account is mostly plein air landscape painting. I'm not sure if it would be a negative to have two different areas of work on my account.
On the plus side its more professional facing keeping them separate, but on the downside its a lot to manage two accounts, and i would be starting over just to keep my "art identities" neat and tidy.

RE: July WIP
Wow this is great! I love the colors, any classes youβd reccommend for learning your color sense?
And I agree, I think some water towards the bottom would add some visual interest for sure!

RE: Portfolio suggestions needed!
I would just bring in your 3 best or 3 newest pieces. You might be over thinking it a bit....they probably just want to get to know you and get a feel for what your art looks like!

The quest for a good smudge brush (PS)
So maybe I'm a bit odd, but I'm on the hunt to find that perfect smudge brush for use in digital painting in Photoshop.
I can't seem to get something that gives me nice soft edges, or allows me to refine/push and pull in the way I want. Or something that gives a nice texture. Does anyone else have this problem?
As an oil painter I think i have less control over my tools digitally than i do traditionally, which seems backwards.lol.
SO....
if you have a go to smudge tool, share it below!
I'm posting a few i use, in hopes that it'll help someone out there with the same problem.
