    Sean P Guzman

    @Sean P Guzman

    Currently a Web Designer with a love for art, whether quirky and fun, or realistic and finely done. I started drawing when I was 27 (that late? Yep.) and I am hoping to get into illustration and fine art areas. Thanks to SVS and resources like it I continue to make progress, always learning!

      Sometimes the blank page is intimidating.

      I did this one in Photoshop. I had been away from art altogether for quite awhile since last year because of a family tragedy, which kinda added to the intimidation I got when starting to draw, whether from stress or sadness, especially from imagination. But anyway, all is looking up! I did this one recently to get myself moving again.

      It looks good! I like the bold use of line in the foreground characters and boat. Overall great work and the expressions of the characters help to sell their emotions. I would second that the background could be just a bit softer to give the illusion of atmospheric perspective; the lines and the colors desaturated a bit more compared to the trees in the foreground as an example. If the clouds still aren't sitting right with you, varying the clouds a bit more, spreading them, might help the flow of the composition. I do think that having no clouds in the foreground, or just a small one like in Jason's example, is a great decision because it gives your foreground character much more presence in the composition. Awesome work!

      @gary-wilkinson Really nice style, character, and color on these Gary. Love the expression and caricature of the second and the little cotton monsters. Your style reminds me just a bit of a children's book I loved as a kid called "Balloon Farm". Nice work!

      It's a charming illustration, Eric! It's looking good and I enjoy your use of color and texture (especially on the cart). I think the orange is a pleasant contrast to the surroundings. As Marsha mentioned, if you want to make some adjustments here the green can be brought to the cooler side. I don't think it is an issue personally, but it would further tie it in as a color with the rest of the background and not be as close on the color wheel to the cart. I love the hard lined light hitting your characters, really gives a clean look to them and lightens the mood a little too. Great job Eric!
