Hi everyone, this is my entry for the April contest!
Think this one is pretty close to finished. The Horse Head Inn & Pub is built around an old light house and is open to any coastal travelers and their animal companions. If anyone has any critiques they are more than welcome.
I plan on continuing with another piece that will be a hotel for sorcerers/mages that will have some crazier architecture that's abit less grounded in reality.
My submission for the March contest! The prompt obviously made me think of Seven Samurai, so I came up with a young skeleton traveler that must find a hero to help his village protect their precious cows from the impending goblin threat.
Here is abit more progress, not entirely set on the color of the otters or their cloths. Originally I had the closer otter have more grayish fur but it was too uninteresting looking. I do like how the goblins have turned out but I'm wondering if the should be out of focus, darker, or maybe even less detailed?
Bellow is my base sketch for the April contest. I'm currently working through the perspective course so I hope the technical aspects are looking okay so far. I need to also add more to make it look more fantastical, so any creative or technical advice would much appreciated. Hope everyone's projects are going great!
Thanks for all the advice. I added some more buildings and a barn to try to pull away from the cottage feel and move it more towards an inn for travelers. I redid the close window a few times and widened the wall so the window falls closer to the center.
Still working on making it more fantastical. Was also thinking about turning the tower into a windmill, but its already somewhat busy as is.
Still working out how my scene will be set up or even if I'll use my traveler from April's contest. But I do know I'll need some goblins! If anyone has any thoughts or critiques on my design so far please let me know. I based this guy off of a sketch I did of a mako shark skull awhile ago.
Now that I have a pretty good idea of what my characters are going to look like I have to figure out how to set them all up in a composition. After a bunch of scribbly thumbnails I have come to the images bellow. I'm trying to figure out a good scale and position for the travelers to make things interesting. I have a long way to go figuring out the background and lighting as well. If anyone has some advice or recommendations on what I can improve on it would be much appriciated, thank you!
Decided to go with a seaside inn built onto an old lighthouse. Most likely going to add some seagulls and look up some coastal foliage. I noticed alot of people are making tiny fairytail inns for woodland creatures which really gives the fairytail/storybook feel. I'm still stuck on pushing my inn away from just medieval/fantasy to fairytail without using characters. I am glad this challenge is forcing me to try out different creative processes though!
@Sabrina-Gosselin that right hand definitely needs to be bulked up I was thinking that when I drew the initial sketch on paper but totally forgot when I transferred it to digital (thanks for reminding me!). I was also toying with the idea of a more hunched back or giving this guy a bag of half eaten fish to give the silhouette that more hunched shape. Thank you for your thoughts!
