Congratulations @Marjorie and @Sara-Glennon and the honorable mentions. Loved to see all your work and all the different styles and techniques. @Marjorie very impressed by your painting technique! @Sara-Glennon your color palette is gorgeous, this image would make a great print!
Thanks @Lee-White for hosting this contest!
Wow this piece looks great! Would be nice as a FB banner as well.
There are already so many great suggestions made, I would add that it might be nice to make the hanging bear a little smaller and the bear on the left side has his leg crossed in front of him, maybe it would read better if the foot (his right foot) would be a bit more directed forwards, towards the viewer.
I think SVS is doing really great, I've taken a couple of other online courses, but as @Jazeps-Tenis said: the focus on storytelling with your art is what makes me choose SVS over others.
A 'route' outline as @Andyg suggested might prevent overwhelm to new subscribers. There is so much great content that it is sometimes hard to focus.
I see questions on more traditional art (yes please!!) and more business-side of things. But I would love to see a class that is somewhere right in between (or after): You are getting the work, now what to do?
To explain what I mean:
I am getting some traction with publishers but when working I would love to know more on how to get my traditional art all cleaned up in photoshop( I go way overboard with cleaning, never knowing when to stop) maybe some digital color-management, how to make sure you have enough space for text and still fill the page, file management, etc etc. That info is hard to find and would really improve workflow. Could imagine you would also add the earlier stages, how to professionally present thumbs/sketches etc.
About the functions of the site: it would be great if there's a way to improve the image-loading (viewing) on the forumthreads as @evilrobot mentioned.
Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work!!
Interesting discussion @demotlj
All suggestions are great. The one that works best for me is a bit like @carriecopa
ask questions and try making them more and more absurd (a fun exercise)
Start asking questions about everything! If you draw a person in a coffeeshop, ask yourself why is this person doing what he does? @Diego_BioSteam mentioned this too, but for me it works best by starting with the most simple question: why? And then more and more questions and answers will pop up.
@Diego_BioSteam thanks for sharing the video's!
Great image @IanS !
Sounds like a nice challenge. I did some challenges before, 365 doodles where you would get a prompt each day and of course Inktober. I like the rush a challenge brings but missed focusing on the things I wanted to make for my portfolio. Right now I’m thinking of setting a personal challenge for myself.
Good luck with your challenge, would love to see the rest of the alphabet! Will you be posting it here or can I follow it somewhere else?
And I almost forgot: I highly recommend the Illustration 1, turbocharging your creativity class from David and Lee. They share great advice on how to come up with different ways to visualize your ideas and deciding what is the best one.
thank you @Cory-Shaw great idea, I did not think of that! I've added them to my list!
@smceccarelli Thank you so much for your suggestions! I didn't know Loomis had more on kids, will look into that. Plus the other books you mentioned.
You are right, practice trumps theory, but since I am so unfamiliar with drawing exact ages (like how a kid of 5 is different than 6 or 7) I could really use some pointers. I plan to do a personal project and draw every age for a week, starting at newborn, up to 18.

Hi Everyone,
I want to get better at drawing kids of different ages. Do you have suggestions on finding more information about this?
I can not find any good anatomy resources. I know Loomis discusses kid's proportion very briefly but I was hoping to find some more extensive information.
When I google it I can only find tutorials on how to draw one kind of kid but I would like to know more on how to draw different ages etc.
Would love any suggestions! Thanks!
@marsha-kay-ottum-owen You can complete lessons by clicking the green button on the right side under the video. (i believe it says 'Next" and then it changes to 'mark as complete' . If you get a checkmark it will register as complete. You have to do so for all video's and documents for one course before it will say 100% complete. Hope this helps you!
