Characters for my comic
HI all,
So I am starting to create some characters for a comic I want to get around too.
I started working on some of these years ago, but looking at them now, I do not think the limbs have much potential (left most drawing).Let me know what you think. I will be posting more of the characters here as I work on them.
This is Finn (open to better names), he is the lead character. -
RE: Characters for my comic
I have finally finished the first page to Fishtales.
Let me know what you think, it looks extremely different from the images above, I wanted to origin section to be grayscale with some colour.

RE: How to Make an Impact With Your Art
Great episode. Love these, just want more and more from you three.
Just a note, I often hear an echo from Jake and Will's mics, is this me, or does anyone else have this? I often find it distracting, but thankfully does not distract too much from the overall messages. My goal with all my art is that if it makes at least one person smile, and have a better day, then it has accomplished more than I could hope for.

RE: Characters for my comic
Finished up page 3 about a week ago, this one was a challenge. I was never happy with the illusion of movement that I needed for the claw slash.
Please let me know what you think. I am about to start the next page.

RE: Successfully Failing
This was a great podcast, really got me thinking about all my failures.
Mine was in primary school, I remember my art and culture teacher failing me and telling me that I would never be an artist.
I went on to study fine art where my lecturers were not supportive of my character design, they did not see it as real art.
I decided to show them all that all they have done is motivate me to work harder. When I finished studying, I went back to that primary school teacher and gave them a drawing from my studies, at first I wanted to prove him wrong, but it was more of a thank you for making me more motivated to work on my craft.
I have had loads of failures since then, but they have all taught me something, and have motivated me to be a better artist.

RE: Recommendation for a tablet
I started with a Wacom Intuos 3, and then an Intuos 4.
I am currently using an XP-Pen Artist 15.6, which is great, not too big and can be stored when I am not using it. I also use a Surface Pro 3 when travelling, it is not as good as a dedicated device, but it does the job.My colleagues and I are currently looking into getting a few Viekk A30 tablets on Amazon. They look pretty decent and are super cheap. $45.

RE: Characters for my comic
Thanks for the feedback, extremely helpful.
Some background on the character. He is a normal pet store goldfish, who gets bought and taken home to discover that his fishbowl is a portal to another dimension.
Here is discovers that the region that he lands up in is being ruled by a cruel crimelord Kingfin (might change but liked the play on Kingpin), who is an octopus. He is trained by an old koi in order to take down Kingfin...That is a very basic explanation of the story, all of the sudden it seems a lot less original.

Great episode. I had not thought about using Linkedin to post-work before. I mostly avoid it.

RE: Characters for my comic
Hi all, I have been struggling with the next page, I have started and been on it for a few weeks, which feels like an eternity.
So page 4 has Finn waking up after being knocked out. We see the top of the cave he is in, then he sees two characters starting at him. From there, I want to show him sitting up all confused and then, a close-up shot of him trying to figure out what has just happened, how did he go from a fish in a tank, to a fish being attacked, waking up in a cave with these two new characters around him.I would really appreciate some advice on how to illustrate and portray this, please.

RE: Characters for my comic
@BenBernardSmith Hey! Thanks for the feedback. So the plan is to create some confusion in this panel, why does he look different in from here on in that he did in the previous pages? I want the audience to experience the confusing Finn was experiencing as this unfolded, but it gets explained soon.
