Comic Book Artist Portfolio
Something i’ve been wondering. A lot of the portfolio advice on SVS is geared towards children’s books. @Jake-Parker @Will-Terry @Lee-White any advice on what a portfolio of someone who wants to illustrate comics should look like?

Would love a critique
Hey all! So I rarely get on the forum, and I realized it's such a cool place to have an art community and get critiqued. So I thought I'd post a drawing I did last night and see if anyone was willing to critique this one. I recently went through the perspective class and am trying to work on that.
Thanks!
Raj

RE: Anyone planning to do Inktober this year?
I’m definitely doing it!
One thing I’m gonna try this year is to use September to plan some. I’ll do some sketches or layouts, so that all I really have to do is sit down and ink once October comes around.

RE: Inktober Book Plagerism Accusations
It’s been so sad seeing the ugliness surrounding this topic. People have no desire to offer forgiveness anymore. People judge people on their worst mistakes rather than the sum of their character. All of it seems like cyber bullying to me. And the irony is that so many people being the most vocal about this are probably people who profit off fan art (other peoples property!)
I completely agree with @Lee-White that so much hate could have been avoided with a simple conversation. Alphonso has only seen a couple pages of the book and made a judgement about the whole thing.
I would love to see people come to jakes support over on social media, it’s been awful seeing what’s happening there

@George-Broussard I would guess they haven’t reversed their position, but just taken down the tweet to not have the arguments start up on their post

RE: Inktober Book Plagerism Accusations
I’m curious to see what @Will-Terry thinks. He dealt with copyright stuff with his last Kickstarter and he’s known Jake for a long time.

RE: Inktober Book Plagerism Accusations
@pixel-dsp it’s a tough position. The only thing I think of is that Alphonso’s YouTube presence and Instagram presence is actually more than Jakes. So calling him “lesser known” is a stretch

RE: Who all out there has a Patreon?
@Frost-Drive I've seen a few work, Ty Carter has one that does really well (but he's really well known). However, I think it works well to center it around a project. Brad Guigar and Dave Kellett are two good examples of this. Most of it for me will still be around a comic.

RE: Who all out there has a Patreon?
@carlianne would love to share! Right now I have 15 patrons. I’ve had it for about 4 months now.
I’ve struggled growing the Patreon after those initial 15 people joined. Patreon isn’t meant to be a place where people discover you, it’s a place where you bring your existing audience. So in that regards I’m not surprised I haven’t grown much.
I’m terms of content, initially I had it so that it would solely be content related to a webcomic I am working on. That made it more difficult to consistently have content. This week I decided to change the tiers a little to make it about my art in general. So I’m hoping that helps me be consistent on it.
Overall I’m a fan of Patreon, I started because I got laid off as the pandemic hit, so any money was fine by me. I say it’s worth getting started even if you don’t have a huge fan base because you can always get friends and family to hop on board first!
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Who all out there has a Patreon?
Hey all! I thought it would be cool to see who all on here have Patreons going! To gather them all here for people to see who they can support if the want. Put your link and a short description!
I'll start off. Mine is Patreon.com/ransomcomic
I just started a small illustration club there. A place for tips, challenges, and artists resources. All working on my comic there!Look forward to seeing what y'all got!
