I used to worry I never had a style but I do think I finally found it, it's mostly very rough sketching and I let the inking find the details, going in with a finer line to draw lines in places so it looks like I know what I'm doing.

I needed a rest after Inktober I loved every second of it though … so that was a strange feeling. I learnt so much. I've never used traditional ink before, so it was really fascinating seeing how that behaves but the main thing I learnt was, I ADORE drawing my own character. Inktober was the first time I drew her over a long period of time, and I've never so much fun before The only thing I've kept doing daily since Inktober is Gesture Drawing with QuickPoses … I love gesture drawing, but I want to start improving my character drawing skills now

I'd say the fact that the log is blue, it doesn't really read as a log! I like that you're making the squirrels different colors Good progress so far!

@jason-bowen @christinakal I've been reading through the following link about illustrators and their postcards. Its very informative and it gives a lot of different perspectives from illustrators. Sub It Club Postcard Post

Yes, I'm going to try. The one year I made it all the way through the month, I definitely felt my creative flow and technique loosening up. It was exhausting, though, to let go of "perfection" and just get it done each day of that month.

Finished, not by any means perfect. Learned a lot about Procreate during the process. Still need to work more on light and shadow and the puppy is a bit unclear. Anyhoo, I feel I made progress. Thanks again for all of your help!

@carriecopa yep - the story spine they called it. We did that in our Second City improv classes as well but that was so long ago I needed a refresher. @C-Davies thanks for the additional resource - will take a look!

@smceccarelli thanks for your response - you’re right about getting stuck in one’s head - can definitely relate to that! I shall look into the SCBWI in my area although I suspect there won’t be one nearby. I know there is one in Toronto but the commute there for me is ridiculous!

Great thumbnailing! When you narrow it down to the one you want to do, I'd encourage you to do thumbnails with a bunch of value variations.

I've got an Epson Artisan 1430 (cheap, and largish format). Epson sells special watercolour paper designed for printing (unsure of the weight), but you could probably just throw some regular watercolour paper in there and see what happens. EDIT: Random forum posts suggest that 300lb paper 'sometimes requires gentle encouragement to start the feed but otherwise works' and the watercolour paper I was printing with is 190lb.

@kathrynadebayo thanks for the feedback! I have to confess the little fish was a bit of an afterthought. but I see what you mean about it being a distraction. Will consider cropping or maybe play with scale/colour. Thankfully it is on a separate layer

@will-terry Will - Thanks soooo much for the feedback! Really appreciate you taking the time to do the draw over and share your critique - it is very generous of you. I see what you mean about the moose antlers - it does read more directly as 'moose' while my version could be a reindeer. I have been struggling with poses in general so will try the stick figure thing. Thanks again - this has been a great help! Cheers!
