    • Frank Stinks Kids Book Launch Party

Earlier this month, we held a book launch party at a children's library for our newest children's book, Frank Stinks. We had about 40 kids, parents, and elementary school teachers in attendance. Since our book is about a wiener dog, we had an edible wiener dog craft, and a visit from the author's dachshund. We also had time for the kids to ask questions about the story and illustrations, as well as time for a read aloud and book signing. Frank Stinks is our 2nd book with author, Nadine Poper. Jess and I also illustrated her book, Wienies in Bikinis.

Here are some pictures from our book launch party. I am in the pink shirt, and Nadine is wearing the striped Doxie shirt.

Here is some info about Frank Stinks, and the link on Amazon:

Frank is a wiener dog who loves to roll in the stinkiest spots in the park. He has a hard time making friends because he is so stinky. A story of friendship and acceptance of others and as well as yourself.

    • The Adventures of Super Liam Feedback Please

I am working on the cover for our new children's book, The Adventures of Super Liam, and would like some feedback.

Liam is a little boy who was born with severe disabilities. He was adopted into a family who loved him very much. He recently passed away. In the story, Liam is super hero, and his super power is love. The cover shows his family gathered at his memorial service, and Super Liam saying goodbye. Liam's brothers and sisters also use wheelchairs, and his whole family is dressed as superheroes. Liam is signing "I Love You" to his family as he flies overhead.

I am looking for feedback on composition, color, and over all layout. The family prefers the illustrations to have a somewhat realistic look.

One question not art related - I tried to make the colors opposite of the Superman colors due to copyright, but I don't think it works as well. Is it necessary to reverse the colors, or can I keep them the same as Superman (like in the photo) but with an L on his chest?

      0_1501290050904_coverstart1sm.jpg

I am also including a character sketch I did of Liam's face in colored pencil. The family likes this, but I would like feedback from other illustrators before I go ahead and start working on the digital version.

    • Online Portfolio Help

We are new here, and this is our first post. We are twins, and we are both seniors at Kutztown University in PA, studying communication design, with a focus on illustration and advertising. We do some freelance illustration work, and have illustrated a few children's books. We mostly use a Wacom tablet to illustrate, but we also enjoy painting with oils, acrylics and watercolor.

We will take a portfolio class in the spring, but we don't want to wait until then to get something online.

We do have a small Wix website for our business, but that does not seem like the best format for our portfolios.

Here is the portfolio page from our Wix site. Right now, both of our work is on one page. Once we find a site we like, we will each create our own.

      http://www.meilidesigns.com/our-artwork

What is your favorite site to display your art? We are looking for something simple that we can update easily. Any other suggestions for us?

      Thank you for your help!

Sammy would look great as an animation! Kait put this together for her boyfriend a few months ago using Character Animator. https://vimeo.com/251561950

Thank you! The other 2 images are in the comments. One is on an angle a bit. Not really happy with the composition of any of them. Can you see the others?

Thank you so much! The author wanted a mascot (the dog) that would appear throughout a series of books. All of the books will be about things Max dreams of - like being a football player.

I will play around some more!

This is the 3rd idea with the football going the other way. Not sure the author will want this.

      Thank you for your input!

    • Cover Design - Looking for input

I am illustrating a children’s book about a little boy named Max. The book is a square. The author wants a football behind the boy going vertically. I am not sure how to incorporate the football.

I am also looking for suggestions for font / colors for the title.

Thank you for your help - finally figured out how to add the image right in the post.

This is the first cover with the football the way the author requested it. I know the lines on the football field are wrong.

    • Need help with changing colors when printing

I created some fantasy postcards in my self promotion class. I first created sketches, then did all the makeup on the model's faces, then I used Photoshop to change the eye and hair color, and add backgrounds and extras.

I tried to print these for my portfolio, but we had to print everything in CMYK, and it changed all my colors - now they are dull and dark. If I can figure out how to fix it, I can reprint them, but I don't have much time. Does anyone know what I need to do?

The first 3 pics are what they are supposed to look like. The bottom two are what happened when I changed to CMYK.

This is what happened to the colors when I changed them to CMYK for my portfolio. The colors changed on all four, but these two are the worst.
