    • Hey! Newbie here! :D

      Hey guys,
      I´m Camila, from Brazil. I´ve worked as 2D artist for mobile games studios for a few years, but I never felt complete about my work. I love to illustrate projects that make a difference in people´s life, and I´m in love with Children´s book because it has a lot of storytelling and learning potential.
      Although i´m following SVS for a long time , I only has created enough courage to post here today after my friend Luisa Furukawa posted here her presentation topic. I always felt insecure about my english. Sorry about that and I hope you are understanding me well 🙂
      I was used to work with a realistic cartoon, with very simple composition and since this year started, I´m studying new kinds of painting and some artists like Emily Hughes and William Joyce.

      This year I´m taking the classes to improve myself and I´m loving them!
      Ill leave here some works I made at the end of this post and here is my online portfolio:

      ....and my Facebook page.

      Hope to exchange a lot with you! 🙂

    • Composition and Value - Help!

      Hey guys!
      I started the follow painting this week, but after I started painted , I realised i was unhappy with something about the composition. I thought the background was competing with the character and the reading wasn´t good. Though I was enjoying the idea, pose and painting.

      Today I started Will Terry´s creative composition class, and I tried some modifications based on that to give more rythm to my painting, but I´m still not very happy with it and with a sensation that there´s something wrong.
      Here is the modified version. Can you help me with it?

      @Dulcie Haha! This washing machine idea was great! Indeed, we can get inspiration from everything! You´re doing really great and I´m seeing your progress.

      I did @Will-Terry perspective class during this week too, here are some of my studies. I almost fried my brain thinking about it 😨

      @Kevin-Longueil actually, I´ve posted the version without the hue saturation adjustments and was waiting for more feedback before post the next version. These sliders are really awesome and helped me a lot!!
      Before read your feedback, I put some details and thought it was doing great. I think that´s maybe because I´m doing this piece for a long time and I´m wanting to move on. ><

      @bharris
      @NoWayMe I really loved that cream kimono too, but when I´ve darkened it, the color became very muddy and I couldn´t see which color could mantain the same effect. I added some cream highlights to see if it solve this problem of her lack of luminosity.
      @Leontine Yes!! It´s totally digital! 🙂

      After the contrast changes using "Hue/Luminosity" sliders, I´m getting pleased with this results.

      You´re helping me a lot, guys!You´re awesooome! 🙂
      Thank you again.

    • RE: Business of Illustration class is live!

      @Lee-White I just finished this class and it was amazing! Thak you so much! I have never thought bout my rights over the images, and It´s making me rethink the way I negotiate my projects. Unfortunately, I realised that i´m working on a great project, but with a really unfair payment right now 😞 But this was good to teach me and to take more care in my next jobs. Now I´m more than certain that I want to get out of entertainment and get into Children´s book area 🙂

      I have a few questions about the class.
      1 - How does the royalties work? Does the publisher have a stablished percentage above the product, or something like this?

      2- What´s the amount of time you are used to spend in a Book´s project?
      I know this depends on the ammount ou money and pages, but I only want a reference. Nowadays, I´m used to stablish my price based on my hour value, and I feel that sometimes it isn´t the great way to charge.

    • RE: My Creative Composition Workbook and Exercises

      I´m doing this workbook right now, But i´m a little lost at the first exercise. I´m having difficulties to understand what to do, and how can I do this. I know that Will previously has explained this at the video, but I only understood the third step, which is creating your own.

      So, about page 1, Can anyone help me and explain what´s the difference between the first and the second step?
      And, how can I do the third one? i´m really finding it really difficult.
      @Will-terry
      i´m sorry if it was already explained somewhere, but i´m not finding it.

      Thank you for the help, guys! 🙂

    • RE: Art Schools in Canada?

      @Razoric480 Actually your suggestion was great, because we are considering other places to live too. My boyfriend is looking for something interesting in Vancouver too, so any suggestion in the whole country is very welcome!

      @Ace-Connell @DanetteDraws
      I´ve looked at Sheridan too, and more than never i´m right that it´s the best option, but the tuitions for foreign students are so expensive and out of my bugdet that I think the investment maybe isn´t worth it 😞
      Even though, having an opportunity of going to disney, like Ace´s friend would be awesome and a good reward.

      Do you have suggestions of part time courses?
      I found a "Cartooning program" at Georgebrown college that seems to be interesting.

      Heyy Bobby! I appreciate your help a lot!
      I´ve already thought about Imaginism In-House workshop, but this course is only 1 month duration and it would be great to have a course longer, because we would like to stay from 6 month to 1 year!
      Can´t wait for you recomendations 🙂 Thank you!

    • Art Schools in Canada?

      Hey guys!
      My boyfriend is going to study in Toronto this year, and I´m looking for good Canadian programs/schools foccused on illustration, So I can apply for it too.
      It doesn´t need to be a College or a university, but I´m not finding any interesting program and I´m feeling a little lost about this.
      In the first place, I´d like to experience some course foccused in editorial illustration, because my work is mostly for digital platforms and l think that could be a great skill to improve. Any other course that can help me improve myself with Children´s illustration, Freelancer career and Creativity improvement is very welcome.

      The most intreresting course that I´ve found is Independent Illustration at Seneca College, but I feel that I can learn most part of its content by studying online here and in others online schools and this could be an unnecessary waste of money.
      Do you have any suggestions of courses that I can apply with these features?

      The composition sounds great! 🙂 I felt very immersed in your illustration. Maybe you could use transform tool to make the horse´s back leg a little smaller, So we can see more the perspective in it.
      Also, I think @sergio is right about the effort the horse´s putting on it.
      It´s getting pretty good. Keep going!!
