RE: Nightfall WIP - feedback
thank you all so much for your feedback
I think it improved the image a lot!
So I think I'm finished now. Maybe I will take a look at it later and change some tiny things but not much
except someone has something that definitely should be changed! : D so thanks again you all -
RE: Nightfall WIP - feedback
@Melanie-Ortins yeah, you might be right : D I will try some color corrections as soon as I think I'm finished
@chrisaakins I think I might try to make their eyes a little brighter as they are now. But my idea was to make them the second read : D I'm really not experienced in composition though. So this is how it looks now. Oh guys I struggled so much but also learned so much painting it : D It is not quite finished yet but I am at a point where I can see the end. Any feedback? Suggestions? Critiques?

RE: Learning outside of SVS Learn [Beginner]
Hey : )
I think the others already said everything important. However I learned the very basics of drawing with this website: https://drawabox.com/It teaches you to move objects in 3D space on paper and I think this is the most important part when it comes to learning how to draw.
I don't know what your level is right now, so maybe it is way too basic, but I loved this website!
For painting I really like the Zac Retz Tutorials, also the one from SVS.
And in the end: yeah, projects are where you probably learn the most, because you can't just stay in your comfort zone but really learn where your weaknesses are and you have to overcome them in order to finish the project.
I hope that helped a little bit! -
Nightfall WIP - feedback
Hey guys
this is my first try in doing an illustration for the monthly contest. I usually don't do full illustrations so I'm really weak in composition and value structures. Do you have any advice how to improve that or any other feedback? I would love to hear what you think!

RE: Nightfall WIP - feedback
so first of all sorry for taking so long for my reply but it's the week of my finals for this semester and I'm pretty busy
@animatosoor yeah I think you're right. I tried to apply your feedback to the color compositions and made the background darker! thank you
@jenithornhill thank you! I think with the trees on the right and left it works way better than before, doesn't it?
@j-sienkowski I love when people draw over my stuff
and the tree is a pretty cool idea. I only made them a bit more diagonal to make the picture more dynamic. Maybe I will let the character look more in the direction where the ghosts are in the final illustration. Thank you! : D
I made these two color compositions. Do you have any feedback on these?
And which one do you like better?
-
RE: Nightfall WIP - feedback
New update: I made a mixture between both color compositions by lowering the opacity on the first one. I think I like the mixture of both best
And I included the new value scheme because it changed so much! -
Looking for critique! :) (WIP)
Hi guys
I'm an animation and game student and currently I really want to experiment with illustrating childrens books and trying out if I like it. (and at the moment I really do)
I know it is quite late to ask for feedback on this illustration but I'm coming to a point where I really feel that critique is necessary. (Also I'm really struggeling to get the text looking good next to the image). I would really appreciate any critique, feedback and suggestions! -
RE: Advice needed - style questions
I totally agree to the others
Also there is a podcast episode that tackles a part of your problem. They advise you to create a dream portfolio: you choose your 20 favorite pieces that you would love to have in your portfolio and then you analyze what you like about them and how to integrate the things you like in your style. It really helped me figuring out how I want my art to evolve and where I still have to improve. Unfortunately I'm not sure which one it was, maybe this one: https://www.svslearn.com/3pointperspectiveblog/2019/9/4/the-style-episodeedit: https://create.adobe.com/2019/2/27/using_a_dream_portfo.html i found an article about it : D

Feedback for short film :)
Hello guys!
So this post is a little different than most of the other posts! (I thope it's okay that this is not completely about illustration)
I'm an animation and game student and because of the corona situation we are making projects all by ourselves for this semester. This semester I am making a short and I thought I could ask you for feedback! This is my logline: Karl goes from room to room and tries to fit in. First he visits the business men, then a party of the cool kids, later the gamers and after them the sports people. Will he find the place where he belongs?
(the logline is still a bit crappy sorry : D)and this is my animatic (for everyone that doesn't know animatics: It's a very broken down version of a movie - kind of an animated storyboard)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/19rg7gK0O22w8SFI8mP-fkAoNS7-5dhYA/view?usp=sharingthese are my character designs (so you can imagine everything better)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vRoXC1-DAhWOfnfs5umoEMIL8EmUrV6G/view?usp=sharingdo you understand what's going on? do you get what the bird(s) are about? Do you have critique/ideas for certain parts of the short? any other critiques?
I only have time until wednesday so if you're later than that I unfortunately can't do anything with your feedback anymore.
Thanks for anyone who takes the time to watch it! : ) I'm thrilled to know what you think

RE: Looking for critique! :) (WIP)
Hey you two thank you so much for the critique!
@LauraA oh yeah you're so right with the tangents. For some reason it's always super hard for me to see them. And I guess I just forgot the other two legs of the piano bench
And yeah I'm also not sure about the leg of the giraffe. I was very inspired by Astrid Henns "Neinhorn" (I'm not sure if there is an english translation yet) but the book is super fun and I love the illustrations. She masters this wacky anatomy thing which gives a real charm to her illustrations in my opinion but I guess I still have to work on this.
@Rachel-Horne Oops this is why it's always super important that other people look on illustrations. : D
I'll keep you posted about how this one evolves!

RE: Feedback needed on this illustration !!
The first thing that stands out is your value structure. It is always good to check it from time to time. Yours is really messy at this point.
It is really hard to see whats going on at first glance. I think this one would be the first thing I fix
Maybe make the forest a bit darker and only let the sunrays hit on the girls face and the fox's face. You can also use more sunrays but I would suggest to make them a bit duller than the other sunrays. Also your composition could be improved I feel!
This space is very empty. And why put the fish in front of the girl if the girl should be the focal point?
These are just some ideas how to improve this one. Maybe the others have some other tips -

RE: Winter time illustration critique.
I was thinking the same as @KathrynAdebayo
Maybe you could add fog to seperate the characters a bit? That would also lower the contrast of the branches in the back a little bit! But otherwise I really like it, especially the style

RE: Nightfall - WIP - Feedback needed :) (new update)
I also really really like this one
Especially the ghosts/shadows in the foreground make it look magical and give it a really special mood. I'm super excited of how it turns out!

RE: Anthropomorphize
Mhm I am not sure if I am the best to answer this question but I would do it this way: make a separate image and line up all the characters that you have in your scene next to each other. And then try to change their features so they look all consistent
I think when they are next to each other this is way easier. (In other words make a character sheet)
What also came to my mind is that on Pinterest you can search for the user βcharacter design referencesβ, they also have lots of boards with anthropomorphized animals. Maybe there are good references there.
But in general I think this is more a problem of character design! And I think if you look for tips on how to make a character lineup look consistent, you will find much more resources.
Hope that helped a bit! -
