    @Jules

I'm on my third year of membership here at SVS, and I love it!! I am a highschool student. I really want to go into animation, but preferably the more artsy side of it. I love doing fan art, and mainly work traditionally, but am trying to move more towards the illustrative. I don't have a favorite medium, I love using all sorts. I'm learning and growing everyday in my art, and that's my favorite part.

This is my yeti and my first ever contest entry! My yeti is based on the Buddhist monks who live in the Himalayas. He has 6 hands for climbing and acrobatics.

    • Hello to the Forum!

Hi! I'm Jules! I'm not new to SVS, I'm actually on my third year. I just started watching all of these new zoom meetings since Covid and they have convinced me to use the forums. People I have met have been super awesome, and I'm really glad I get to be a part of this! I am a high school student, and if I'm being honest, am terrified to get critiques or show my work to really incredible people! But I am really grateful for this opportunity to get help and encouragement, and can't wait to get started. I love art and animation, and I hope to go into it someday! I love character design, though I am not particularly good at it and it remains very challenging. Here's some of my stuff to finish out my intro! It's all kinda old, but it's all I have for now:

That's it for now!! Some of these are old, and some of these are new, but they are some highlights from the past couple of years. I hope to have more soon, I'm working on a gallery wall in my room right now, and it's taking a lot of my svs knowledge to do it!!
      Thanks everyone!

    • Costume Design Class

      Hi!
I have been doing SVS for about 2 years now and noticed that you guys have a class on Styilizing characters, but nothing about outfitting a character. It would be really great to see how you use the costume to add to the characters depth and personality. I would also love to see your methods for making a costume based on what time period or place a character is from. Really just to teach anything there is to know, or need to know about costumes would be awesome.
      Thanks for considering

    • RE: Inktober Book Plagerism Accusations

I want to say a quick thank you to Jake for all of his amazing classes here on SVS and all of the awesome videos on his YouTube channel. They really have gotten me through some low confidence moments and they have improved my skills immensely! I love Inktober and I’m so grateful that he started it! This will be my third year and I am a junior in high school. I loved his robotics and Machinery class and his creative environment design class. I don’t think I’ve ever improved as much in my drawing skills as I did when I took his How to Draw Everything class and his Drawing Animals class. Jake is a genuine person who wants to help artists, and it makes me sad that this has happened. I am very excited for Inktober this year and I hope that all can get sorted out.
Thank you so much for all you’ve done Jake! Hang in there!

    • Costume Design

Hi! I've been working on the stylizing character class and on my own characters and I have really been struggling with costume design. Could you make a class on character design and how to make it fit with the time period, fit the personality of the character, and show the emotion and symbolism, and all that complicated stuff? This would be SUCH a lifesaver!!!
      Thank you!!

    • Designing fictional Creatures

      Hi all!
This is my second year at SVS and I cannot tell you how wonderful all of these classes are!!! I am wondering if there is a possibility that we could do a class and discussion about how to do creatures and everyone's creative process for that.

    • Seeking Critique on a concept piece

      Hi Forum!
I’m working on a piece for my AP art project/short film (you can view more about that on the forum under HELP please 😩). This is just a mock up of the final. The pieces hanging up in the background will all be drawn illustrations , and the ones behind are master copies. As far as light and shadow. I'm not sure if the shadows and light should be the yellow and purple tint or if I should take the darker / warmer versions of each object's original color. All advice is welcome,

    • HELP! (Please 😫)

So this a school project for AP Art. Here’s a little background on it:
My project is... an “Art of...” book based off my own short film.
My short film in one sentence: Man has fallen out of love with his art until it (his art) reminds him who he is and the progress he’s made.

The plot in a short paragraph: he draws lots of traditional art, sends his portfolio into a traditional Art academy, is rejected. He breaks down and has a flash back of when he was a little boy drawing creative things and feeling very happy. He comes back to himself and begins to draw furiously. After time has obviously passed he has created many inspiring illustrations and heads off to a publishing company with them. They accept his work!

Help: so I definitely don’t have everything figured out, but right now I am specifically working on my main character. There is the version of him before he changes, the one after he changes, and the one of him as a little boy. Characters are a very weak point for me in illustration. All of the sketches I have are super, SUPER rough and they don’t have the feeling I want so I am just looking for any tips: anything you like, hate, hate, love, what you want to see, what could be improved, etc. I have a list of the character traits for each “version” of my character.
      Thank you!!!!F4185EB2-D93F-45C5-9881-E25C7A19D1F0.jpeg 1A5D92C2-A00B-4257-BC02-D18CF5636E0C.jpeg 71857321-DB1A-4DA3-ABE6-FEBF5953EFCE.jpeg 48BAC45E-07AD-4E02-8E94-13E9CE035976.jpeg 94E8B760-2BEF-4D55-AA0F-808AC674740F.jpeg

Do these need to be colored and nice looking? Or can we do sketches and finished ones? Just wondering, I have seen both done in character studies. 🙃

@SarahLou It looks great! I think it's super smart to work both digital and traditional, especially since I am new to digital and struggle with some things about it still. Although having a good drawing tablet makes a big difference!
I am going to start the gesture class this week (I am jumping around) because I'm working on a character study that's going to need it. I'm going to try and finish it and my study by next Monday, but we'll see how that goes. I'd love to post my assignments here though and get some feedback from you all.
