This is my yeti and my first ever contest entry! My yeti is based on the Buddhist monks who live in the Himalayas. He has 6 hands for climbing and acrobatics.
I'm on my third year of membership here at SVS, and I love it!! I am a highschool student. I really want to go into animation, but preferably the more artsy side of it. I love doing fan art, and mainly work traditionally, but am trying to move more towards the illustrative. I don't have a favorite medium, I love using all sorts. I'm learning and growing everyday in my art, and that's my favorite part.

Hello to the Forum!
Hi! I'm Jules! I'm not new to SVS, I'm actually on my third year. I just started watching all of these new zoom meetings since Covid and they have convinced me to use the forums. People I have met have been super awesome, and I'm really glad I get to be a part of this! I am a high school student, and if I'm being honest, am terrified to get critiques or show my work to really incredible people! But I am really grateful for this opportunity to get help and encouragement, and can't wait to get started. I love art and animation, and I hope to go into it someday! I love character design, though I am not particularly good at it and it remains very challenging. Here's some of my stuff to finish out my intro! It's all kinda old, but it's all I have for now:
2020 (First digitally done character, and 10th digital thing ever)
2018 dry pastel
2019 Colored Pencil
2018 alchol marker
2019 first photoshop project
2019 drafting pencil
That's it for now!! Some of these are old, and some of these are new, but they are some highlights from the past couple of years. I hope to have more soon, I'm working on a gallery wall in my room right now, and it's taking a lot of my svs knowledge to do it!!
It is done!! Finished my 15 piece art project
So I posted about this a loooong time ago asking for idea help (HELP! (Please ), but fast forward and I have finished my project! It has evolved quite a bit and I thought I'd share it with you all.
My project has now become 15 concept pieces for a short film I wrote. All of my pieces were done using procreate on the iPad Pro, and I did all 15 in 6 1/2 months. I focused a lot on lighting, backgrounds, and storytelling.
For this project I wrote a short film about my character Kenneth. He is an artist who did traditional art, but fails and now he has to rediscover what he loves. He writes the story of Prometheus, who he drew in his childhood. Eventually he pitches the idea to his publisher and his book is published.
The 2nd half of my project are the designs and scenes from Kenneth’s telling of Prometheus.
In Kenneth’s version, Prometheus stole fire from Hephaestus and formed humankind on a potters wheel. He gave them fire which gave them life and they worshipped him. Slowly people forgot about him and his fire began to die. One child came and found him with his fire gone, but his body still warm. It took its fire and gave it to Prometheus. With Prometheus alive and the child now dying he took his own fire and gave the child a new heart.
Feedback is welcome!
Costume Design Class
I have been doing SVS for about 2 years now and noticed that you guys have a class on Styilizing characters, but nothing about outfitting a character. It would be really great to see how you use the costume to add to the characters depth and personality. I would also love to see your methods for making a costume based on what time period or place a character is from. Really just to teach anything there is to know, or need to know about costumes would be awesome.
Thanks for considering
RE: Inktober Book Plagerism Accusations
I want to say a quick thank you to Jake for all of his amazing classes here on SVS and all of the awesome videos on his YouTube channel. They really have gotten me through some low confidence moments and they have improved my skills immensely! I love Inktober and I’m so grateful that he started it! This will be my third year and I am a junior in high school. I loved his robotics and Machinery class and his creative environment design class. I don’t think I’ve ever improved as much in my drawing skills as I did when I took his How to Draw Everything class and his Drawing Animals class. Jake is a genuine person who wants to help artists, and it makes me sad that this has happened. I am very excited for Inktober this year and I hope that all can get sorted out.
Thank you so much for all you’ve done Jake! Hang in there!
Hi! I've been working on the stylizing character class and on my own characters and I have really been struggling with costume design. Could you make a class on character design and how to make it fit with the time period, fit the personality of the character, and show the emotion and symbolism, and all that complicated stuff? This would be SUCH a lifesaver!!!
Designing fictional Creatures
This is my second year at SVS and I cannot tell you how wonderful all of these classes are!!! I am wondering if there is a possibility that we could do a class and discussion about how to do creatures and everyone's creative process for that.
Seeking Critique on a concept piece
I’m working on a piece for my AP art project/short film (you can view more about that on the forum under HELP please ). This is just a mock up of the final. The pieces hanging up in the background will all be drawn illustrations , and the ones behind are master copies. As far as light and shadow. I'm not sure if the shadows and light should be the yellow and purple tint or if I should take the darker / warmer versions of each object's original color. All advice is welcome,
RE: 10,000 bad drawings (200/10000)
I love this idea! I am such a perfectionist that I am always scared to draw things and share them. I think because I won’t draw things in case they turn out bad, I am majorly missing out on some amazing works I could create. I have a giant project I’m working on (you can see it on the forum under HELP (Please) where I am going to be failing a lot and it is so hard and scary! Way to be brave! And don’t give up!!!

RE: I NEED YOUR HELP! Portfolio WIP
Hi Kori! I really liked looking at your pieces! You have some really great poses on your characters, and your background work is great too!
I agree with (can’t remember who said it) the comment about finding different brushes. I think expanding brushes would really help add different texture and depth. I had the same problem with brushes when I started doing digital art. I’ve gotten a little bit better, but it’s still something I’m learning.
Another thing that I noticed is that some parts of your pieces look really different from the rest of the piece. For example, your ninja piece has a great background, but the simplicity of the character looks out of place in the background. I’m not entirely sure how to fix this because I have this problem with some of my pieces too, but if you can find ways to make them look like they are the same style or texture, that could help. (Someone else probably knows what I’m talking about and could articulate it better )
You are doing a good job! Keep pushing yourself and trying new things.
RE: How To Deal With Fear Of Success
Wow this was a great podcast episode! This past school year I had a major 15 piece project that I had to complete and it left me feeling burnt out. I had a lot of people say great things about it, but they left me with a sort of fear of success that my next year’s project will fall short. Because of this pressure and some leftover burn out, I have been avoiding next years art project despite a lot of ideas that I am excited about working on. Every time I sit down I just freeze up.
Has this happened to anyone else? What do you do to move past it?
RE: June Contest - Albert the Fennec Complete (Critiques Welcome)
Super cute design!! I really love the way you painted him. The texture and the brush work adds a lot to his personality.
RE: Meet my pal Albert (he is a bit special....)hopeful WIP
I love how strong your shapes are in this character. It makes him nice to look at. I like the lion one a little better. He looks a bit more friendly.
