I'm a rogue scientist, unregulated space explorer and keeper of high level government secrets. I also illustrate when I'm not busy with all the boring stuff.

    • Hello From Washington State

      Hi Everyone.
I was a member of SVS about 5 years ago and loved it. I had some unfortunate setbacks but now I am back to rekindle and continue this Illustration aspiration of mine. I kinda feel like I'm starting from scratch but that's fine. I'm just really happy to be back at it. Can't wait to meet some of you and get some work done.

Did this one a few years ago before I got into an accident that derailed my artistic pursuits. Bear_River_Illustration_JonathonBEE.jpg

    • My Classwork

I thought I'd start a thread to show the assignments I've been working on and submit some for the review of anyone that feels like giving some advice and critique. These first 2 are from Basic Perspective. Perspective is one of my great shortcomings but don't be shy. Let me know where I can improve. 2_Point_Perspective_Study_2.jpg 2_Point_Perspective_Study.jpg
      Thanks

    • RE: My Classwork

So this drawing was me attempting to apply some of the things I learned in Basic Perspective to an actual illustration. As before I invite your toughest critiques. I really want to have my eyes opened to the areas where I need the most work so that I can start to correct them. I'd like to know what anyone thinks about the overall composition as I will probably take this piece through to the light and shadow techniques from Lee Whites class that I just finished up. I'd say on the Willow tree illustration maybe pull up the one branch that's coming down over the face of the boat or put it behind the boat if you want it to look like the boat is going into the willow.

@Heather-Boyd Thanks Heather, Now I can't unsee how ginormous that shoe is, Haha. I appreciate you checking my work for me. I find perspective incredibly frustrating but I think the class helped me see things a little more clearly.

    • RE: Welcoming critiques!

@dafoota This revision is looking good. I'm glad you toned down the halo around the lettering. I thought that was a bit distracting but it looks good now. I'm wondering if you could put a little of the green glow from the city into the eyeballs. Might make it punch more.

@Heather-Boyd Nope, it is intentionally perplexing. Like I said it was meant to look impossible.

@hakepe Haha, how did they get any of it up there ?! I made this for my wife when we were looking for a house. I wanted to paint something that was seemed completely impossible and possibly dangerous. This was the result.

@hakepe That's amazing ! Wow ! First of all I think you nailed the gesture and overall it's a fantastic piece. Second congrats on the success of your FB post. I've been working the Instagram pretty hard and like you I only get about 20-40 likes but not much feedback. What are the FB groups you are part of I am looking for a place other than SVS that I can get some decent critiques.
