    John Bleau

    @jbleau

    I live and draw just outside of Detroit. I have a family and a hound dog that find their way into a lot of my sketches. I have drawn all my life, as a job and hobby. Always looking to improve.

    • RE: Honest critiques please 😊

      @Zachary-Drenski Love the style! I like the way you rendered the trees, grass and textured details!...Poor Sparky:(...It's a fun image!!! I am pulled to the paw and its contrast to the sky... Is this a night scene (I see headlights)? Maybe look at contrast, sightlines between characters, and backlighting. Maybe just play with some of those elements to see what you like...I hope it ok to play with your image. It's so fun I couldn't resist! Really Nice Work!!2bcf9228-0148-415a-a248-3e45299db81c-image.png

    • RE: Red Riding Hood in the Arctic

      You might simplify your values to 3 levels, and just play with shapes first. Experiment with thumbnails and the shapes of the ice, wolf and Red to see what works best together. I really love the wolf shadow you put in, there are so many fun things you can do with that. Here are a few very quick experiments. I find I can cover a lot of options this way until I find something I like... hope this helps...B5268432-D783-4418-9B49-5CE81C802E80.jpeg

    • Nightfall Roughs for feedback...

      First posting in a long while. I saw Lee White talking about the number of thumbnails, value studies, color comps prior to a final. So I thought I would post a few initial studies for the "Nightfall" challenge. After doing a series of thumbnails I have 4 favorites...they may be hard to read as they are rough but feedback likes/dislikes welcome. Wondering if they convey "story" or if there is a favorite to pursue. Thanks

    • RE: Would love to give a critique

      @miriam Hello! just now checking back in after the holidays and saw your very thoughtful crit. Thank you for spending the time to give feedback. Lighting and color is a big struggle for me. I agree with all your comments, not sure how to fix yet. With a night scene I know things are diffused but I was trying to add some color ...Yes, shadow will help and the ear is odd now that I look at it. Speckles were to be stars but since you picked fireflies, I will say that was what I was going for 🙂 I will go back and review rabbit feet anatomy. Thanks again for the time and effort to give some great feedback, very much appreciated!

      A refinement of the Lasso the Moon concept. Experimenting with composition and value refinement...not sure if the moon is working in this...
      rev2 value .png pushing the main characters as a more central focus...
      rev2A value .png
      Closer to the original concept...

      This is such a fun image! I like the scene and oversized monster! It’s just cute and funny! Some things you might consider ...play up the fur texture along the edges ...cast some blue tv light on objects to help bring them out...use a ‘glow layer” to add light to the monsters face...hope this helps... thought I would try a little work over to test out some things...before I go to sleep...really fun image and idea!!!!! Hope this is helpful. Crit notes.png

      @Zachary-Drenski It looks great! Don’t ever look at feedback as direction...Especially from me! It’s just food for thought...It’s always easier to play with someone else’s piece, all the hard work is done. Thanks for posting and encouraging feedback!

      @lenwen I like top left ...I think the dark covers allow the focus to be on the face
