@Chip-Valecek Jane Smith Chocolate Dog SVS May copy.jpg

Here in New Zealand isolation under level 4 and 3 has been peaceful and a great time to draw and paint. I've been illustrating fantasy isolation spaces since the whole thing began. (This isn't MY studio! It's a fantasy!) Jane Smith | Chocolate Dog | New Zealand

Hello SVS Team, thanks for entertaining us through lockdown with the live video-casts - I've really enjoyed them. Jane in New Zealand

@Chip-Valecek Isolation has been good to us here in New Zealand for the most part. I like peace and quiet anyway so this is how I imagine my fantasy isolation space and perfect studio accompanied, of course, by my animals. Janes Fantasy Isolation Space.jpg

    • RE: What To Do When You're Between Jobs

@Pamela-Fraley I agree, you have to keep in mind that you are actually running a business. Unless you are one of the lucky few who can just indulge themselves. We have a charity budget each year that we parcel out and once it's gone it's gone. I find that giving every little "favour", if I do choose to do them, some minor monetary value it just focuses the client enough so that they don't abuse your good nature too much. We've arrived at this by bitter and costly experience though. I do set myself projects in quiet times but they always have an end in mind.

    • RE: Anybody else excited about Will Terry's new book on Kickstarter?

Ab-so-bloomin'-lutely! I mentally signed up for it the first time he mentioned it on the podcast. It's going to be an invaluable resource, and full of his scrummy illos too no doubt so yes, I am in the queue for it!

@Ryan-Ehr thanks Ryan, I think the whole thing has been far easier for us Kiwis than for people in other parts of the world. Let’s hope we all come out the other side soon!

    • RE: Procreate vs Adobe

Procreate is marvelous and you can always add Adobe Fresco to your iPad I think - it's a plain vanilla version of PS. The only thing I would say is that further down the line when you are working for publications or books you will find PSD on a big screen with a tablet gives you much more control and reach plus the ability to adjust for print specs in more detail. I hope I am right in saying that - I certainly use both Procreate and PSD - for publication of illos I always export my Procreate work in PSD format and crawl over it tidying up and fussing with effects and colour etc. You'll enjoy Procreate for sure and could hold off on the significant - and unending! - investment in PS for a while.

Loving it - yes, Bong's branch is immediately apparent as a fish hook.

    • RE: Stand Up Desk?

I love mine - sorted out my slouching and back ache. It means you move about a lot more during the day. I found it well worth the investment. I bought an electric one that can be lowered to normal desk height so when I meet with clients I don't tower over them! I would say yes, if you can afford to get one do so.

@Deborah-Cantlon-Lambson Haha! You are not alone! They're great to have on while you're inking or sketching. Lovely to hear the banter between them all and always good, real-world advice.

Anything that works! You'll save yourself a lot of back pain and RSI from bad posture whatever route you go. Sitting seems to be the new smoking!

    • RE: Ready to upload to KDP but... I have a trim question

@Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen KDP actually contains full specifications for all bleeds and trims. You do have to hunt for it a bit but the information is within KDP. Yes, you'll have to load the cover as a separate document. How many inner pages have you got? Front cover + Back cover + blank inner front + blank inner back = 4pp plus how many text pages? I am counting and I see 26pp? You can also download a PDF template for each cover size from KDP which you can sit your artwork over the top of to check that you have the right amount of bleed etc. It's NOT the most intuitive site to follow but the info is all on there. Hope that helps. Cheers Jane
