A Mothers Love Knows No Bounds.
Between having a baby and moving to Oregon, I have found it increasingly difficult to be able to sit down and do art. However, when the baby is napping I have made it a point to work on a piece a little bit each session/nap time. I wish I had the full process but unfortunately, I lost the files. Regardless, behold The Leaf Lion. :3
I loved participating in Slowvember! I've been so caught up in work and school. This was an awesome way to pass my free time and distress. I was able to play around without feeling rushed. Pacing myself and taking my time resulted in a much more polished piece!
Love this concept, squirrels are so cute when they prepare for winter. :3
I have just a couple of things that might help with your piece.
The first thing that stood out to me was the bird. I felt it was out of place, however, I think it might have just been due to his line of vision. It's taking the viewer eyes away from the piece when we follow it.
Hope you don't mind I did a quick draw over to demonstrate what I mean.
I felt if you changed its line of vision to maybe be looking at what they're gathering, then it will engage the bird into the piece.
Another thing I noticed was that the squirrel parent seemed to be admiring the "food, gathering materials" for itself. Almost like Gollum from Lord of the Rings "My Precious" Haha. I felt that if the parent squirrel turned towards the babies as if it's offering it to them then it would look more like a family preparing for winter.
This combined with all the critters line of vision, allows the viewer to understand better what is occurring within the piece.
Awesome job, can't wait to see as this piece progresses through Slowvember!
Hi @eli, I totally see what you're saying. I now realize @Chip-Valecek was probably saying the same thing but I wasn't quite getting it. I blame lack of sleep. Haha! Thank you and also to Chip for showing me, I will adjust the scarf! Thank you for your feedback.
Hi @nyrryl-cadiz! I will definitely work on the snowman so he's more apparent to being there. I think adding the "middle" ball will also help the eye realize it's a snowman. I'll play around with showing more of his face, too! Thank you for the feedback!
I intended for it to be coming out of its mouth as if the fox tore a piece of it from the snowman and is running off with it. I was inspired by my cat who loves fabrics and strings and likes to run around with them haha That's why the snowman is so upset. Well mostly due to the fox jumping on him but also ruining his scarf! @chip-valecek
Good idea @chip-valecek! I'll give him some arms flailing about! Haha
I see what you mean about the bottom portion of the snowman. I definitely need to make them look more like buttons. I think the shadow I added also gives it the sunken in hole look which you're right, resembles the holes in a bowling ball! Thanks for the suggestions!
Decided to get in on the Slowvember action! Rough sketch finished, then went in to just play around with highlights and shadows to see where I would like them. I'm really working on trying to bring more "life & movement" to my artwork since I felt past pieces looked too stagnant and posed. Definitely trying to pace myself, I'm eager to add color! Now to clean it up a bit. I would love feedback and thoughts!
I haven't been able to draw as much as I would like to as of late! Recently moved, have a baby on the way, life's been kind of chaotic!
Luckily was able to bunker down and get back in the flow of things. This was a piece requested by my boyfriend for his step father's birthday. He loves the ocean, wants to be a captain on a boat and he also loves his Wild Turkey and smokes. Haha. Can't wait to see what he thinks.
