@TessaW said in 2019 SCBWI Narrative Award!:

tereotypes and see how we can look at a prompt from different perspectives. While this contest implied the definition of what "ground-breaking" is by relating it to space exploration, I don't think it

Thank you @StudioLooong and @TessaW It is totally making sense to me now after your explanations!

    • Anyone had positive experience with postcard promos?

      Or tear sheets?

Have a huge list of clients that only receives snail mail. Wonder if anyone have any positive experience with sending out postcards and promos.

Do you send out just one postcard as a postcard, or several postcards in an envelope as a mail? How about tear sheets? Or even brochures? Does investing into brochures like a small zine worth it?

      Thank you!

    • RE: Color Critique

@jdubz personally think this looks better than the first one, however, the value of the boy's hat is giving it gravity, so his head looks a bit heavy.

How about try use a much lighter and still warm value for his hat, and change the color of his coat (between light warm yellow-ocher and light orange ) so that the who picture is balanced color-wise, and it will also give people an immediate point of focus. I would also change the scarf to a more saturated red, but that will totally depends on the mood of this story and age group.

something like this would work well for little kids.

    • RE: 2019 SCBWI Narrative Award!

      Congratulations! Her illustrations are amazing!

And I feel so bad to ask this question below, but I really want to figure it out even though I didn't enter the contest. Otherwise there will be a big question mark in my head.

I am a bit confused because the requirement of the contest says to illustrate a "groundbreaking journey" ... The illustrations are cute, describes very well a story in just 3 images, and sure kids will love them. While the journey is not "groundbreaking" even though in the illustrations there are literally tunnels in the ground... made by moles I believe. BTW "groundbreaking" means "new and likely to have an effect on how things are done in the future". So I wonder when we are entering contests, how strict should we follow the requirements. Any advice/experience?

      Thank you @bugeyefly and @bugeyefly ,

From your experience, which is better?

      1. sending out one postcard
      2. sending out multiple postcards at once (like 2 or 3), since two images on one card is only represent a very small corner of one's work.
      3. sending out an envelope with tearsheets or several postcards inside?
