    • RE: JUNE CONTEST: A very different kind of prompt!

Hi everyone, here is my entry for the June contest: A very different kind of prompt!

Starting with a set story plot and defined characters was very exciting and challenging in a positive way, had to do some research about where do monkeys and alligators coexist, and decided to go with the Nile River Baboon and Alligator for Bongo and Clyde.

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

      Praise God!!!

      Hi everyone!

This is my first time posting here in SVS Forum, there's a lot of amazing artist here.
I've wanted to enter in one of the art contest for a long time now, just haven't had the time to actually participate in any SVS art contest, i feel that the Slowvember challenge works perfectly for my current situation, currently looking for work an trying to provide for my family.

SVS courses are very cool and i found the courses to be very well done, learned allot about how to do Children books art and character and story development. all on which i am very interested in.

    • Character story for MAY ISOLATION

      Name:
      No.26 before adopted
Renamed "Zed" British for the letter Z
"Z" the twenty-sixth letter of the alphabet

      Born Location:
      Liberia's Monkey Island

      Primary Mission:
To test out the latest space technology and find out if Mars is suitable for human life

      Parents:
        - Father:
      Alpha Chimpanzee
      Died at the laboratory

        - Mother:
Was one of many chimps used for experiments in a lab, later abandoned to die on an island called "Liberia's monkey island"
she received an injection of an unknown chemical while being pregnant with Zed
She died a month after giving birth, to an unknown illness

      Background:
Zed became an orphan at a very young age left to defend for himself, the lac of food and absence of his mother helped develop high intellectual skills rare for the primate species
Life in Monkey Island was very harsh, lacking both potable water and good food sources, chimps that lived there rely solely on human caregivers to bring food to the island

chaotic surroundings and bullied by bigger chimps, life for a small orphan chimp was not easy
longing for isolation and a place to be free to explore other horizons, Zed began to explore the island to find a way out, developing tools to catch fish to eat and shelter to hide from bullies.

Zed special qualities did not go unnoticed a Neuroscientist named Robert, observing the Chimps saw Zed using one of his tools to catch a fish, Robert grew very fond of Zen and adopted him

One day Robert went to work, to meet one of his good friends who was undergoing a candidacy training program at the Johnson Space Center in Houston,
taking Zed with him, Robert didn't go anywhere without Zed

Zed showed a lot of interest in all the training equipment, Robert was very good friends with the head of the training program who grew fond of Zed
allowing Zed to participate in the candidacy training program apart of the human candidates just for fun, astonish by Zed training results, what started as fun and games
Zed stats were outperforming allot of the human candidates.

The Head of the training program showed his supervisors the results of Zed performance, baffled, decided to examine Zed further

      Zed exceeded expectations

Thrilled by the possibility to save billions of dollars, the administrator of the space program decided to send Zed to trailblaze a secret mission to find out if Mars is suitable for human life.

    • RE: Peer To Peer Feedback on April Piece?

      Hi Jeremy!

There is a lot of cool designs in this illustration.
I really like the Robot design and the overall concept idea.

I did a paint over to try and help with the composition maybe give the characters more space.

They are not in order 😃

      • Updated the Canvas space of the scene

      • Centered the main characters, Lisa and the Robot

      • simplified the environment more so the focus stays on the main characters, I did that by using Atmospheric Perspective in photoshop I use a
Lighten layer with an aqua color similar to the sky in the scene

      • Simplified the shrubs in the background by rounding shapes and using small medium and large shapes.

      • rounded the grass hill

      • Centered the Text and enlarged it a bid

      • foreshorten one of the Robot's ear and Face

      • fliped the robot and Lisa

      • Moved Lisa closer to the robot where she overlapped the robot, though it will help sell the confrontational look

      • Spaced out the back characters and shrunk them down. to show more depth and distance.

      • Used Gaussian blur to blur the back characters individually

      • to finish I did some color adjustments by using the - Adjustments Layers.

      • Hue/Saturation - move the Hue a bit to the right to +13

      • Made a Vignette using another Hue/Saturation layers, by using an alpha mask

      • Photo Filter - Warming Filter (85) Density: at 25%

      • Levels - Moved the wires a lil to the left and the blacks a lil to the right

I really hope this wasn't confusing, hope I could help in some way, at least show you another composition idea!SVS_feedback_01.jpg

    • RE: Post-contest Help/Critique of my November Contest Entry

      Hi @JoshuaDages

      Here is my 2 cents

I really like your characters and art style.

I agree with my fellow artist.

I wanted to give you constructive feedback by respecting your art style and painting over your existing illustration.

wanted to show you color variations, warms vs cools, color variety, and by adding neutral colors, you could achieve a very fun color illustration.

I think your original color pallet was too monochromatic

      I hope this was helpful.

      Keep up the good work!!!
