Here are my first exercises.
Since I joined SVS I draw everyday. I'm so grateful for the inspiration, help and good vibes from this community. Thanks a lot to all of you!
I get my motivation from inspiration through other artists. I buy books. A lot of books!
Shaun Tan, Isabelle Arsenault, Amélie Fléchais, Oliver Jeffers (for children's book)
James Jean, Lars Henkel (very artistic)
Philippe Faraut, James Gurney, Gottfried Bammes (handcraft and teaching)
Just look at this film from Shaun Tan – magic! ^^:
@Vicky-Vicky Welcome here, Vicky! I like your composition idea a lot but I have some troubles with it. I think the wisps are a lil bit distracting because the head ends with the lid/glas wall. Break the symmetry and angle her head. Maybe a hand touches the glas or she hold it up… Try to use one brush palette (Is this the right word for it?). In my opinion, the textured crayon brush doesn't fit with the bold and flat brush.
Keep up the good work and I'm curious about your next pictures!
@Christina-Taylor-Brown I am a freelance illustrator since one year and I know what burden they have to handle – although I'm just a beginner and no pro like Lee, Jake and Will Terry. (And I have no children at home (yet) to worry about.)
It was the way things were announced that made me upset. Like I said: It's ok if the course is delayed, just don't promise something.
Thanks and have fun, too! ^^
Thank you very much for the response and problem solving, Lee! It's nice to get an insight of what's going on and the reasons for the delay. I am ready for some champagne! But wait... it's 7 o'clock in the morning over here. I need breakfast first.
So thanks again Lee – I am happy and looking forward to watch the 2. part.
"Prosit! / Cheers!"
I don't think that's a bad idea, Audrey. And unlike you I am not joking, when I say: This is very annoying! We are put off from one week to the next. And we pay monthly fees for new courses.
I know that sounds very harsh, but that's how I feel about it.
Please don't make promises, if you can't hold them, Lee. It's ok to say that the class will be delayed. Just don't say "today/tomorrow/end of the week", because we are looking forward to it and get disappointed.
@Jana Herzlich Willkommen, Jana! Schön, dass du den Weg zu SVS gefunden hast. :o) Mein Englisch ist nicht sehr flüssig, aber ich versuche mein Bestes, hehe.
What especially do you mean by kiddy comic style? What comic artists inspires you? And have you a particular project in mind that you want to start in this style?
I ask this questions, because I think it's not only for children's eyes but rather for young-at-heart people. Look at Klaus Ensikat or Shaun Tan. Beispielsweise verkaufen Sie sich unter anderem als Kinderbuchillustratoren, aber für meine Begriffe sind das Bilder und Themen für Erwachsene.
To cut a long story short: Please tell us more about you, why you come to SVS and what your goals are. ;o)
Liebe Grüße aus Kiel
@Shannon-Perkins Your finished piece looks wonderful! The shading is smooth and fits the scenery. Great job!
I see a white line...Is this a harsh rim light behind the figure and grass? (Please correct me, if I misinterpret it) IMO there should be some more white spots near Astrid's shoes and on the leaves of grass, if bright sunlight shines through the trees on the valley.
