Amazing entries everyone! It's going to be so hard for them to pick the top 16 this time. Here's where I landed with mine.
@Jeremy-Ross So fun! I love how the spider is scary but also somehow adorable? Perfect children's book balance! I'm also obsessed with her little spur earrings that match the ones on her shoes. Such a fun little detail. Best of luck in the contest!
I like A but was scared to go with something centered - great idea to flip the sidekick though! I'd also probably arch the plants a bit more towards her to frame her.
On the other hand, I like how she's moving through the space in D. Both options are from different points in time - so this would be when she's just arrived whereas A would be after she sits to rest (maybe I'd add the bitten apple in there from B so perhaps they're pissed at her for biting a fruit...)
Hmm...decisions decisions. Thanks again!
@chrisaakins So fun! It's really interesting to see how you handled the threat of an army in two totally different styles. The profile of that orc is especially striking.
@Asyas_illos You're so prolific! I can barely get one entry ready, much less 4 awesome ones. My favorite is definitely the nod to Alice in Wonderland. It has great storytelling and I love the color palette you chose.
@SheerArt Great movement. I hope this works out for the little guy! I wish I could see this animated to see how it ends. haha
@Joe-Koz I'm not worried for the warrior but that little farmer type guy should maaaybe consider "flight" instead of "fight." lol! It really feels like an ambush though - those goblins are super menacing.
@Moana-Maureen So magical. Using the shadow to reveal the bad guy is brilliant. I also love the textures in your piece!
@jdubz I feel like every character has its own personality - so hard to do when you have groups of similar characters. Really fun!
@Janette Really cute! I was not expecting the traveler's color palette from your sketches - what a fun surprise. Really smart to have her hair glowing so that she's not just in a dark hole in the ground.
Hey! Thanks for taking a look. I've been plugging away on my May entry but I'm having the hardest time with composition/background. A million thumbnails later, I've landed on these 4 options but I'm still struggling to choose.
My concept is that the traveler (& her trusty weasel) have taken cover in a greenhouse because it's either night time or raining (though I'm unsure I have the skills to draw a rainy background). She starts to get a creepy feeling but hasn't actually seen the evil plants behind her yet.
Do any of these 4 options stand out to you? Or should I continue the thumbnail stage?
@Jeremy-Ross Thanks! I thought that the chimney was a little wonky but I wasn't sure of the best way to attach it. I'll keep fiddling with it.
Hey everybody! It was so fun to battle it out in the critique arena with my little gingerbread inn. Ending in a tie was super exciting (even if I ultimately lost) - I love a dramatic finish.
Here's the rework I did based on the critique I got from Jake about making it "less clumpy." Any feedback you have is welcomed! I'm hoping to polish this up as much as I can and throw it into my portfolio. Thanks
You may have already answered these questions, but I'm wondering what Children's Book Pro means for SVS?
Thanks! I just subscribed over here so there are a lot of courses I haven't taken yet (and don't want to miss if they're going away!)
@Larue How whimsical! The fireflies at the top add so much ambiance. I especially love that little bunny chillin on her deck...balcony...porch? Not sure what to call it but it's awesome!
@Georgios-Christopoulos Super fun. I bet their fish & chips are to die for That lighthouse shark looks like a character from a boss battle i'd have to reload multiple times to beat.
@Elizabeth-Rose So delicate! Seems like a peaceful place to stay. The hat is so gorgeous with all the work you did with light and shadow.
@KathrynAdebayo WOW those micro-mini people are amazing. Love the yoga! Great concept.
@Jeremiahbrown I have a hard enough time drawing regular perspective! Your ability to create movement in your piece is masterful.
@Tiffany-Thomas Thank you! I was worried that it was too much. If you can believe it...this is the version AFTER I deleted some details...yikes. haha
Ahh...I'm so intimidated. I've always been a creator but I just started pursuing children's illustration this year. This is my first month taking classes, so I figured I'd go all in and try the contest as well! I believe I committed the newbie sin of over-illustrating, but it was too fun not to. Hope you like the GingerB&B!
@davido Wow, thanks for your help! I wasn't expecting anyone to put any time into analyzing my image, but I really appreciate it. The bed was looking funky to me but I thought perhaps it was because I picked bad vanishing points. Now I realize that it was that AND I didn't use the second point properly to begin with. Yikes!
Hey! Just want some validation that I actually completed an assignment. haha
Can't say perspective is my favorite but I love tedious little detail work so I ended up having fun with this one. I imagine that this is a bedroom of someone who would consider "cat lover" to be their personality type.
Thanks for taking a look!
