The mock-up by @krisblack really helped me to also solidify my vote for #4.

@RobinCampbellArt thanks so much for this feedback. Playing around with a few different ideas based on all the feedback I received. I'm using this illustration just as a way to practice some of my fundamentals and so no formal layout. I'll be sure to post my progress!!

      Thanks again!!

    • RE: Inktober Pencil Work onto T-Shirts?

      Hello Heather!

I did a quick google search and came up with this article which I found helpful to your questions: https://www.spreadshirt.com/blog/2017/11/06/copyright-basics-t-shirt-design-dos-donts/

I think you are the proprietor of the art and so the intellectual property is yours, even though she owns the art. If you are interested in selling the art as t-shirts, I think it would be totally up to you - and totally up to you to include her in selling said t-shirts. If you think it would be a fun joint venture then I think I'd just make it clear that you'd like to pursue it as a joint venture and make it very clear how you'd like to split costs/profits.

I think your friendship will be that much stronger if you treat it as business and are very clear of your concerns, wants, needs...

Just my 2 cents, hope it is helpful.

    • RE: Critique needed- Night Cat

      @BetelJio -

I really love this image and the progress is really wonderful to see between your first post to the most recent!

For the shadow, I wonder if it might be nice to add a bit more movement or shape corresponding to the cat. I did a quick google search and found this image for reference:

    • RE: late to "before the moment"

Ha, I love that the boy is holding a "Fear of Falling" book. A great concept!

I agree with @sketchbook re the perspective. I think the back wall and left side wall might be a bit off in perspective (where they align together) causing not quite enough depth imo. I hope this helps!

    • RE: Mermay WIP

@nyrrylcadiz - I'm really liking how this updated illustration is coming together.

Hmm, as far as other ideas to get her back to the ocean, here are some ideas: 1) maybe she pays to get on one of those duck boat tours; 2) ties her to a plastic bag (plastic always ends up in the ocean 😞 ) ; 3) tries to get her a ride on a salmon migrating into the ocean?

No hurt feelings if you don't like any of these ideas but I hope it helps spark an idea. Good luck!

    • RE: Good Evening!!!!

The simplicity in some of your animal drawings near the top is very nice. I admire the way you've broken down some complex animal shapes into simpler forms.

    • RE: Need a little website critique/opinion <3

I agree with what others have said here and also like the clean look of your site. It seems to showcase your home runs rather than everything under the sun. I also agree with @NessIllustration about the name and think having your own may make it a bit clearer that you are one entity.

      Beautiful work btw!

    • Hello Everyone!

      Warm Greetings -

I've been on SVS for about six months now and recently have been trying to get involved in the forum. I'm also a major Jake Parker/Lee White/Will Terry nerd - LOVING their art, podcast and YouTube channels.

This last year I became a stay-at-home mother and became interested in learning to draw. I never took art classes but always had an interest in sketching. I've also always had interest in storytelling and children's books from a young age. This led me to look for courses to learn to effectively story tell through illustration - SVS for the win! Now, after a year of plugging away, I've decided this is what I'd like to pursue in life and have been devoting time to get better.

I am excited to participate more in the forum and get to know you all. It has been really wonderful to see the comradery and willingness to help one another grow.

      Many Thanks,
      Donella

    • RE: Inktober Pencil Work onto T-Shirts?

@Heather-Boyd - I think it again just depends on your comfort level and what you want. Either way, I think she definitely needs your approval before making it into t-shirts. If you would like to be compensated for your work then I think it is totally within your right to ask for compensation.

    • RE: Hi, I'm Dan :)

@skillydan welcome! Really fun characters, I especially like the boy with the green goo in the jar. The textures and facial expression are really nice!

As far as improvements, with some of your characters - such as the Mom in the last post or your animal characters in the first post - it might be nice to see some more gesture in those characters. Having some more movement or flow in the characters actions may help them come alive a bit more.
