Hello SVS community
I am looking for information on how to find an agent and publish an art book. I’ve listened to all of the 3 Point Perspective podcasts (LOVE THEM!) and while they have great insights on getting jobs as an illustrator, how do you find an agent and publisher as a fine artist instead of an illustrator?
I’m in the midst of an art project I would like to turn into a book. It consists of portraits of cool women who have achieved something significant (e.g. “first woman to _____” and the like). Accompanying each portrait is 400-600 word bio. The bio consists of a notable quote from or about the person, a vignette about a moment the subject had to overcome something difficult or an achievement they made, and then a couple paragraphs of additional context about the person. (You can get a taste of this project on Instagram under #FearlessPortraitProject
The purpose of this project is to celebrate female achievement and show my daughters and other young women what is possible (after all, “if you can see it, you can be it”).
Approaching this as a fine artist rather than a traditional illustrator or writer/illustrator, how do I move this project from portfolio of physical drawings to published book?
