      Hi Everyone!

I am Cat, I am an illustrator from Transylvania, (Romania) living in Scotland.
I just decided to join this wonderful community of talented people.

This is my artwork created especially for this contest. What a great experience and experimental time working on it!!0_1537309763048_15B7E468-454B-49E1-9D24-904F029C0287.jpeg

      Greetings Everyone!

I know I'm a little late but I have been busy illustrating a book I can't wait to share with everyone.

Because I love a challenge, for this contest, I wanted to visually tell the story just with the cast shadows and a few clues. I hope you love it as much as I loved solving this puzzle!

Congrats to everyone on your original creative approaches and keep up the good work!

      Stay well and creative.

      Hey everyone!
      I'm Cat.
      And My brand name is
      Cat on Paper

This logo is made in photoshop and didn't vectorized it yet since it didn't really need to. I love the pencil feel with its imperfections..

***funny thing! By instinct, for a split second, I thought I should watermark the logo... 😂

    • 3 questions to shape your career as an illustrator

Hi everyone! The more layers I brake into the publishing world, the more questions I seem to have..
So I realised it is important what sort of questions we should rather ask ourselves in order to carry on when life is salty lemonade or we get distracted.
The questions shouldn't invoke expectations as answers but rather what to focus on. As if they are your compass showing you where North, Est and West are when lost in the woods.

So what are your 3 core questions?

      Mine:

'what does Success really means to me as an illustrator?'
(Applicable to a Project, Partnership, 'The next few years, Life)

'Who should I get in contact in order to get more work''
(this can refere to industry -> company -> the decision maker in that company and it helps personalising the way I approach)

'What can I bring new to the table or improve ?'

I would love to hear what our SVS instructors' questions are, as much as everyone else.

    • need your help. Spec Spread

      Hi dear friends,

A project manager contacted me seeking illustration work for a picture book and she asked me what's my fee for doing a spec spread and then what would my pricing for illustrating a whole 32 page for 5000 copies.

      Questions:
Can someone please let me know what a SPEC SPREAD is, please?
How should we charge based on the nr of copies?

      Many thanks,

      Cat

      oh they're so cool!
I guess you wouldn't go wrong with 1 or 4.
What I am curious of though is: Will you have your website mentioned there?

    • Art Directors or Editors ? 🤔

who makes a decision regarding the right illustrator for a book?

I'm making a contact list for emailing publishers and send greeting cards. I somehow got the impression that it may defer from a publisher to another one, is that right? If so why?
For instance, a company like Penguin Random House has loads of Art Directors affiliated to the same branch. Finding the right person to address in this case is overwhelming, let alone the Art Director vs Editor part... Can someone shine some light on me?

    • Can anyone help? (Editors)

      Hi y'all ♥

I have a script and not sure if I want to lean towards self publishing or to get to publishers.
However, the text needs to be edited. Does anyone know how to approach editors with a script?
If you know anyone soliciting just now please let me know! 🙏♥

      Best wishes!
