Hi😊 I'm Jen...I'm married to Dan,I have 3 kids, and a malamute called Loki, who is our adopted furry child! I have a cat called Ning Nong, who adopted us,she was a street cat who loves eating crisps!
I went back to college as a "mature"student, and in five years completed a foundation in art,Ba(hons) in fine art,and added in a teaching cert,2008-2013.The most valuable thing for me was trying out new ways of expressing myself,my influences where Gordon Matta Clarke and Mona Hatoum. One of my degree pieces was a chair covered in broken china.....since then,I have been working as a supply teacher, mainly focussing on feeding and clothing 2 teenagers! So I chose fine art for my own development, and went into teaching for my family.I now want to develop and grow as an illustrator.Very excited to embark on this part of my artistic journey, this time yesterday I didn't know about SVS,and even how I was going to proceed,The internet's a wonderful thing.😃

RE: Juggling work and illustration. Creative careers and career changes
#evilrobot...
So much pressure to be at a certain standard by the time you're 21 or younger! Where does the notion come from that an artist should be established by 21?slightly worrying as with perfection there Is no room for growth or personal development.I believe that art should be allowed time for growth and development and for change.I'm 45,does that mean I'm passed it,heck no! I have years of experience in my favour, and rear view mirror, and miles of opportunities ahead.I ain't dead yet! -
RE: Who's participating in InkTober?
I think this is a fab idea, and i think it would help focus me! Not had any further thoughts on what I'm going to do,may do a a few one min sketches and some longer considerations, would live to do some monoprints, that ink after all...not sure if I want to have a them yet,or build an eclectic mix, decisions decisions

RE: Anyone else on here a parent who is trying to get better at their art?
2 teenagers,one dog,one cat and a hubby...
love them all dearly, but I've asked everyone, excluding pets! That I'm not to be disturbed when I'm drawing.I let everyone know that Im about to go into an art vortex,I ask for any last requests, apart from drinks and snacks, they can get those. Then it had better be a limb hanging off, fire or death that distracts me,or there may be some !
