@rhirsch I use a Surface Pro 4 with Toon Boom Harmony for 2D animation. Clip Studio Paint and Krita also offer much cheaper 2D animation tools for beginners that work well to get started. -- Krita is free/open source.

Children's Book Sketch: Critique Needed!
Working on a children's book and really trying to push the use of perspective but also struggling to keep the rules. I thought I was doing this drawing correctly but then felt that if you were to scale the kids to the house, the house would be insanely large compared to the characters. Not sure if at this point I'm overthinking it. Any drawovers and explanations would be highly appreciated! This forum has been a godsend in the past couple years for me!!

Should I freelance as an art student?
Hi all,
I’ve been a freelance children’s book illustrator since high school and am entering my 3rd year of art college. I recently got into a heated debate on Twitter with Chris Do, founder of Blind and TheFutur (a popular design education platform — like SVS but more on the graphic design side) where he was discouraging students to freelance while in school and to instead solely focus on school projects. Is there a balance? Is it good to freelance to get experience in your industry while pushing your work and business skills forward before entering the workforce after school? Would particularly like to hear @Will-Terry and the podcast gang’s thoughts as educators. Chris invited me onto his podcast and I’d like to get some thoughts from the illustration world first. He has me questioning freelancing which is alarming because I’m halfway through college!

RE: Children's Book Sketch: Critique Needed!
Thanks for you reply! I appreciate it. I guess the reason I was getting super tripped up about scale is that I know you can take a character and scale them in space based on where their body hits the horizon line. That just doesn’t seem to work for this setup, and I’m really confused as to why. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c6/e0/52/c6e052922fdb141871451343cfd60dd4.jpg
