This was so tough to upload in decent quality because of the size restrictions. I think i might avoid doing another long spread next time. (actually looking at it in a new window it looks fine so i take that comment back)
I got really inspired after watching Will Terry's draw 50 things. I had a lot of fun! Decided to go a different direction for this piece and happy with how it came out. It's also fun looking at all the fun things I added and going "oh yeah that thing!"
I wanted to wait until I got the official email and schedule but I got accepted to the June studio illustration and storytelling residency at the School of Visual Arts.
Im not 100% sure what to expect but they liked my portfolio and I wanted to say thank you to all the SVS people because not only did I learn a lot I used some of my contest entries as portfolio pieces.
It’s only a month and I’m not really sure what people do at residencies so if anyone has done it or has advice I’d totally appreciate it.
Hi everyone. Im doing a 1 month residency at SVA in nyc till the end of june.
I thought it would be cool to post stuff that they have me working on on here so people know wth it is. I had no idea what it was at first either.
There are 3 instructors.
One that focuses on editorial illustration/business guidance
One that focuses on sequential art and visual natrative
And one that focused on storytelling and picture book illustrations
All 3 provide guidance of course and will have us meeting with all kinds of people in the industry which is cool.
I have a few assignments already heres one. They are Exlibris (ive never heard of them until now)
Hand inked. Stone monster in mourning. Nib and brushpen.

Ok so I had a looot of struggles with this exercise. But I think after I flipped it (because I’m a lefty) it was an. Bit easier. Something I figured out that works for me was after the shapes, when I’m putting in the details, try to remember what kind of details go where and try to draw it from memory. Which I only did with half. Let me know if anyone has any critiques.
