    • RE: QUESTION: How beneficial would closed captions be?

For inclusivity, both for people who cannot hear and for those learning English, subtitles is an instant 10/10.

It would additionally be helpful for promotional purposes if you were to post short clips on social media since many people engage with the apps without sound.

    • RE: Need Advice on a Printer! I want to make merchandise from home, archival quality, any tips?

@sigross I was looking into the Pixma Pro 10 just a couple days ago. Those are sold out everywhere online in the U.S. right now and I'd guess that'll be the case for a while with COVID-19 disrupting a lot of production/shipping. It's too bad because the model looks great for what I need.

    • RE: I need feedback on this sketch

I'm getting some Redwall vibes here! (Which is always a good thing in my book.) If mice and other creatures are the main characters here, I'd also recommend making the skull less human and more rodent.

    • RE: Procreate Brushes advice, please

@LauraA This doesn't really answer the question but a company that is similar to True Grit is Retro Supply Co. While most of their stuff is for more vintage-flavored art, they have some very nice sets to mimic the styles of Golden Books in the 1960s and a gauche set. I really like the inking tools from their basic midcentury packs.

    • RE: Mac Compatibility with Canon Pixma Pro 10s

I think you should be fine. (Please note that I'm not a printer expert so maybe other people should weigh in.)

I just looked at the "official" Pixma Pro 10's specifications for Mac on the Canon site, and they are SUPER old OS..es ... 10.5-9? Not sure why Canon didn't future-proof the list of operating systems. For example, Windows 10 isn't on the list either, but I have to think that works as well. The Pro-10 has the same OS specs as my Pro-100, which works fine with the OS 10.14 that I'm running.

Also that's very exciting you found a Pro-10 in the wild! It's the model I was looking for but with the mass shortages that have been going on, I opted for the Pro-100.

    • RE: How my commission business exploded.

To join the dog-commission parade, I entered a very specific niche this year. I drew a LOT of images specifically for people's ... dog's Instagram accounts. The images ended up being used for general marketing or those IG story covers. One of my dog clients got a job with a tourist bureau, and I did art of the dog for the bureau.

Below was used for a the dog on the right (Teddy) attending the other dog's (Ollie's) birthday party, which was attended by a few pups who have big followings on Instagram.

@Rachel-Horne Yep, I'm in the US. Both the 100 and 10 have been largely out of stock for a while, but when a 100 became available, I went ahead and got it. Really like the quality, even if it isn't archival.

    • RE: procreate help

@Jeremy-Ross I've read Procreate's CMYK color profile is just approximating CMYK, so for some people, using that profile can throw off colors in the printing process. (I've not personally run into this issue as I've not printed a ton of my stuff yet.)

    • RE: Serious critique requested--Narnia characters

I've read the Narnia books many times and watched the old BBC miniseries ... who knows how many times. I feel like you've really nailed the character designs based on their personalities. I like Edmund's sour expression.

Here's one suggestion about the clothes: maybe Susan's skirt should go just below her knees instead of above? I haven't done a real deep dive into women's period fashion, but it seems like she would look a little more grown up with a slightly longer skirt since that was the style of most women's clothes vs. girls clothes.

@jimsz Yeah, InDesign can be tough to manage on first try. Of all the Adobe programs, I luckily used InDesign first because I worked at newspapers in college, but most of my graphic designer friends loathe it.

When using InDesign, I'd recommend exporting your project to PDF before printing (and then print using Adobe Acrobat). In InDesign's export menu, you have a LOT of control in colors/bleeds/quality that you won't get just printing straight from InDesign.
