100 Head Challenge
-
I decided to do the 100 Heads Challenge. If you're not familiar, it was started by Ahmed Aldoori on YouTube. The goal is to draw 100 heads in 10 days. He provides a Pinterest Page with a set of 100 heads already prepared (of course, you can select your own).
I decided to do this challenge with a brush pen and N4 Copic marker. I love the 3 tone comic book style from books like Framed Ink and wanted to improve my skills at it. There's only so much time in a day, so the average is 5-6 minutes per head for me.
Feel free to join in and post in this thread! I would love to see the different styles and how others tackle it.

@SketchyArtish Interesting.
Ive been extending the gesture drawing to also do the facial expression section from “line of action” site. I might be able to finish them a little farther to complete them as heads.I love that you’re using this challenge also to refine your brush pen and copic markers. That’s so inktober!

It would have looked better (and been much easier for me) to go digital, but I'm working on confidence in lines and wanted to take away the ability to fix mistakes. It's been fun to get to experiment and then move on so fast between each drawing. Even when one looks terrible it's just "oh well, only took 5 mins and I learned not to do that".
Hopefully I can feel ready for the next Inktober in time! Practice, practice, practice.
-
This looks like a lot of fun. I'm not ready to do this yet but maybe soon. Thanks for the link and you're off to a great start by the look of things!
-
Good for you for taking on this challenge! You'll definitely grow from this

Day 3

Here's a great sheet of expressions you could use: https://reference.pictures/

Day 4 (Ignore the tree house doodle)
-
@RajSolankiArt Ooh. That's a nice site. Thanks. I'm doing the "official" list from Pinterest for this round. Maybe next time I can work in images from a package like this.
-
Day 1 My first 11 heads of 4 ppl, trying to go from difficult realistic art to easy quick comic art. I had really fun drawing the realistic ones, didn't draw something like this since my teen times.
-
oh! interesting! I will do it someday! I think you are making a lot of progress already JerrySketchyArt. Do you feel it?
-
I gave it a go... 6 min per drawing is challenging! Time off for me after 3 heads only. We ll see if I am better tomorrow!
I could not upload the photo, maybe tomorrow... (otherwise I am julia.nsw on Instagram) -
Day 5

Thanks! Definitely feeling some progress. The first day was a real struggle. Learning a ton about what I can and can't get away with using the copic.
-
You've inspired me.
Here's my day 2 and 3.
I'm using the Line of Action site--why? because I didn't read the fine print in your first post! Off to check out the Pinterist list. And thanks to @RajSolankiArt for the link to another collection of images.I'm doing mine digitally. I've actually been thinking of using a different app, one in which undo'ing or erasing takes more effort than in Procreate. Like you, I really need to improve the confidence of my lines.
-
@Susan-Marks Great work, I am also using procreate for my heads sketching and almost all my other sketching. You could try other brush to get more "pencil" art, I use the last brush inside the "textures brushes". I have it in german, so I cannot tell You the name, but the pressure works there very good and I have about 70%opacity on it.
-
Day 2
-
@JerrySketchyArt I'm in the middle of doing this challenge too!! And I decided to do it with my brush pen for the same reasons as you.
Not trying to do in 10 days as this isn't realistic for me with full-time work, but I'm at head 66 so far... Averaging around 8 a day. I'll post them here when I'm done.
Good job on yours. Nice to see you sticking to the challenge
-
@MichaelaH I like this round of characters as well.
I never would have thought of using that brush as a pencil. I usually use it huge on backgrounds. But my challenge with procreate is that it’s so darn easy to erase and redo. I’ve actually written into other non-drawing apps I use to ask them to please add the two-finger tap to undo. It’s a curse in drawing.
-
@Susan-Marks I know, I love this two-finger tap also, but it is really a curse, because when I am drawing analog on paper, I am always tapping on the paper...
