Favorite Artists/Illustrators
-
Hey everyone,
I thought it would be cool to find out who peoples favorite artists and illustrators are and maybe a little bit about why you like that particular one. Throw in a link to their work so we can have a look.
I'll start with a couple of mine:
James Jean is my all time favorite. I discovered him when he was illustrating the covers for the Fables graphic novels. I love pretty much everything about his work from the linework to the way he designs characters. I especially like how he adds random graphic/abstract elements to the work that make it a bit more surreal.

I'm a huge fan of Golden Age Illustration--I love N. C. Wyeth, J. C. Leyendecker, and Howard Pyle.
As for more current stuff, 2D animation is a huge inspiration, though I've never really wanted to work in an Animation Studio. Studio Ghibli is an obvious favorite, but here are some lesser known ones:
Longway North (this one isn't out yet)

Well, I am a bit odd, (stop nodding your head). I appreciate practically all artists, and I am impressed with the new digital artists and the old masters. But my real favourite all time artist, is Leonardo Da Vinci. He not only a great artist, he was an engineer and scientist.

Thanks for the links @Sarah LuAnn . I really like the 2d stuff they're putting out these days. And Shaun Tan is incredible as is Jon Foster. I even have one of Jon Fosters art books from like 10 years ago.
Good call @Steve Young. Da Vinci is the best.

First of all: Thanks, Jonathan, for this wonderful topic! I am looking forward to many interesting posts coming soon.
The Illustrator who impressed me most lately is Torben Kuhlmann, a German freelance Illustrator. I love his book "Lindbergh - Die abenteuerliche Geschichte einer fliegenden Maus" ("Lindbergh - advanturous story of a flying mouse"). It was his project for the diploma thesis.
Here you find a book teaser:

Talking about old masters, I want to mention again (I mentioned him in one of my earlier posts)
Carl Spitzweg (1808-1885)
His paintings have a very unique atmosphere. I like how he shows normal people in their every-day environment, giving a very realistic impression about the time he lived in.
His figures are awesome. Very inspiring to me.
I am familiar with his work since I was very little, because my dad used to copy him a lot. Maybe that's why I still admire him.
This is one of my favorites ("Der Bรผcherwurm):

What a wonderful topic! I'm really eager to see what everyone shares.
I really can't pick any favourites, because I seem to like pretty much everything - from the most simple and graphic, to the painterly and loose styles. I can say what my brain has been feasting on lately is this painter - Stepan Kolesnikoff. Found his paintings on pinterest.

What he did with trees and atmosphere and lighting...I really feel like I can breathe the cold in the air
As for more modern, digital things - https://www.google.bg/search?q=Priscilla+Wong+art&rlz=1C1KAFB_enBG543BG544&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CDMQsARqFQoTCPH-vYex8scCFcvWGgodpoYOsg&biw=1920&bih=955
Priscilla Wong. I think someone mentioned her in a video. Real treat to look at :))I might share more on a later post.
