Portfolio & Website Overhaul
-
Hi everyone!
I gathered up all my loose change and took the plunge in purchasing a professional portfolio review from SVS!
While I’m still making updates and creating new pieces, the feedback I received was exactly the kick in the arse I needed!
In short, my website and portfolio was crap, lol.
*too many styles
*too many pieces on my portfolio (counted 30+)
*too many other tabs (fabrics, shirt designs, animation, fine art, etc.,) I’m confusing agents!I have much more feedback, which I won’t bore you with; however, I highly recommend you get a portfolio review!
I’ve reduced my portfolio to limited pieces and replacing as I create new ones.
I’m leaning more on ink and watercolor since I’m enjoying that style. Here’s a recent piece in that style.
Here’s my updated and improved portfolio:

@Jeremy-Ross I don’t know what it looked like before but this looks great!
-
@Jeremy-Ross Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm saving up to get a critique. Your piece looks great!
-
Thank you so much @allysa!
I saved each page as a PDF for historical purposes; but in short, it was definitely too cluttered.
-
Thank you @kirsten-mcg, appreciate your kind words!
It’s definitely well worth the costs, especially getting constructive feedback, even if it’s hard to hear it. You just have to let go and be receptive, even killing your darlings if you have to.
Cheers!

I love the blue monster looking sheepish about biting the letter!
-
Thank you @Robyn-Hepburn! I always crack up when I read that, too! Thanks for pointing that out!

Hi SVS Family,
I’ve updated my website to Gallery View and added more recent work and removed older weaker pieces I wasn’t proud of any longer.
I have a mix of sequential art, spots, spreads, covers, and snuck in a complete dummy to show agents and art directors that what I’ve learned here at SVS!
I also cleaned up my About Page with a professional photo.
Does my site and portfolio look professional?
Thanks for checking it out!!

@Jeremy-Ross this might be super picky, but when you click on one picture it gives you the option to continue sliding to see full versions instead of cropped. When in that mode, is it possible to keep the arrows in the same spot or do they have to be touching the sides of the images? You can click through faster if you don't have to look for the arrows every time.

@Jeremy-Ross The pictures of the squirrel and bird are really cute. However, when you have two images side by side on the top row, I can't help but notice differences in the character designs. Might need more people's opinion on this but I was told art directors look for consistency in character and it might be totally fine but I don't know if it might need to be fixed... I'm just looking for little stuff because overall it's really good and easy to use the website.

@Jeremy-Ross Who was the publisher you worked with for the Mustard series? It says "Lionrabbit" but I tried googling and couldn't find it.
-
@Jeremy-Ross I love your monster messaging service haha!
-
Hi @kayleenartlover , thanks for your input! I’ll respond to each point here.
-
The gallery view automatically puts the arrows on the image; I will see if I can make any updates to the template.
-
Good point on the duck! Yes, it’s sequential art, so definitely looking for consistency.
-
LIONRABBIT is my business. I independently published under the name.
Thanks again for your time and feedback!

Hi @kayleenartlover , Thanks again for your advice on the character inconsistency between the first and second sequential piece. I fixed it and re-posted to my portfolio.
Thanks again for pointing out what I knew deep down I needed to fix.
-
@Jeremy-Ross It looks great! And I can't remember what the other picture looked like but make sure the squirrel's facial features match as well, it looks really cute in this one.
-
Thanks @kayleenartlover!

@Jeremy-Ross
I can 100% relate to your comment "removed older weaker pieces I wasn’t proud of any longer."
There was a time when we were proud of those pieces, but as we get better and our style grows we start to outgrow them.
Very best wishes, Jeremy. Your website portfolio's looking great! -
Thank you so much @Adam-Thornton-0!
Here’s my very first drawing in 2018 compared to a recent piece.

@Jeremy-Ross It is like a different artist. Amateur to professional! Love it. Thanks for sharing those.
