Folktale Week Finally Finished *large exasperated sigh*
-
Hi all! I know I mentioned on someone's thread weeks and weeks ago that I was doing Folktale Week.
It has since turned into Folktale MonthSSSSS (plural)
Anyway, here it is. Now I will proceed to collapse and wonder how people make books twice the length of this in half the amount of time.
Critiques very very welcome! I am happy I finished something (yay for shipping!) but I'm very dissatisfied with my visual story telling abilities. I guess that's why I'm here!
P.S. yes, I did screen capture my own higher res images - it just felt like the least painful way to post this whole story here. I have to say, I wish I were well-off enough to hire an assistant for the "shipping" part of projects. I just want to make thingsssss
^I know this group can relate.Okay that is all, thank you thank you for following along and thanks in advance for any feedback you have for me!!

Congrats on finishing up this big project! Certainly no small task. A couple things I’d like to bring attention to are balancing value and color. You use a wide range of colors which is a very challenging thing to pull off because it disrupts any attempts at creating a cohesive color palette. Similarly, all of your colors are very high saturation which doesn’t bring the viewers focus to any one area. Colors are hard as heck, I’m struggling with them at the moment. But I think using a more limited color palette would definitely help.

@Kristen-Lango you should be so proud of yourself for finishing this! It is a ton of work to do a series this long, and it says a lot that you stuck with it all the way through “shipping.” I agree with @Griffin-McPherson about color. Your colors are bright and fun, but toning them down a little in some areas and letting them be more saturated in your focal point would help your compositions. We’re you working traditionally for these? If I were working on this series, for many of them I probably would have really watered down the pigments for backgrounds and saved the purer colors for the foreground characters. Kind of like this.

@kirsten-mcg congratulations! Finishing a challenge is no small achievement

Ah so sorry for my late reply to this, so much has been going on, I haven't been on the forums since posting this.
@Griffin-McPherson thank you! And I definitely agree with you! I've been struggling with that for a long time, and will certainly keep that in mind in my next projects. Thanks for you feedback!
@kirsten-mcg thank you so much for taking the time to do that draw over! And aw thanks, yes I had Lee's voice in the back of my head the whole time talking about shipping, and actually it's still in my head because I want to print this and maybe try to mail it out to some agents. Yes I was working traditionally on these and I was also completing them rather quickly, because I've been really frustrated with my inability to finish an entire story. Again, I love what you did with the "costume" piece in making the background lighter, it really helps so much!
@Nyrryl-Cadiz thank you!
