Anyone use a desk magnifying lamp?

I have been drawing and scanning some traditional pencil lately, but am having some problems seeing and working in detail. (On my Cintiq, I can zoom in.) Does anyone have experience with those desktop magnifiers or recommendations of any specific one?

Any problems I should be aware of? For instance, I wear those contact lenses with two different strengths, so if I put on reading glasses, it causes eye strain. Wondering if the same thing might happen with this glass.

Oh, and I forgot to add that my desk is just a small desk in a bedroom, therefore relatively small.
