Absolutely incredible... I love studying both Norman Rockwell and JC Leyendecker. Such good storytelling and excellent illustration chops. Thank you for posting! And you noted the time it took you? LOVE it...
I decided to go with D, and I just launched into it. I'm hoping folks can tell me if things are pulling focus and interest. I"m worried there's too much texture in the tree, perhaps, and I need to do something a bit more substantial to the path he's standing on...
@aprilshin I decided to change the boy's facial expression a bit, and have him looking upward with a "sorta" grin... I think that was stronger than the "I'm lonely" vibe I think I was going for... Does that make things a bit clearer? Or at least less complicated?
Great Running pose! The sitting pose is a little too similar to the standing pose. Try turning it slightly and/or draw them sitting on their butt with their feet kicked out in front of them. Over all great design.
@Michael-Angelo-Go Thank you, kind genius! I love what you did color-wise, that's exactly what I was going for. Adding a filter to harmonize a color scheme is a great suggestion, I'll remember that. And although I tend to prefer flat lighting, I like the dimension your shading added. I think I'll do it flat first and add shading afterward if it looks like it needs it. Thanks again for your time, I really appreciate it.
This is my guy this morning..no other thoughts except that he's happy with himself and the new vest. Feeling people like because of his clothing. So, he's peppy, happy. Also extremely hairy. haha.
@KGatto I am just seeing this post and I see that it was put up about 22 days ago. But I wanted to let you know that I have a brand new XPen ( used only once) that I am selling. We are new to homeschooling this year and got the unit for our daughter. She would prefer to use an iPad and Procreate instead. She is young and enjoys the ease of being able to jump in and go rather than learning a different program that she is unfamiliar with.
I agreee with others that have chimed in that the XPen is pretty awesome. We did a lot of research before the purchase and it would have been great to use ( had she used itπ€¨.)
If you are interested in buying it you could message me and we can take it from there.
Here is the final piece! Thank you so much for all your input. I can see how valuable this community is. I look forward to learning more from you all.9F023631-7CAD-4571-8109-B21F66B27AEE.jpeg
Focusing on what you're learning is important, otherwise you are all over the place when there is so much to learn. I know that happens to me. It has helped me to choose a subject, like character design for example, to focus on each month. I create a plan, with courses, books for reference etc. Even with that one subject you may have to narrow it down or take more than one month. Then you want to use what you've learned, not just go on to the next subject. This has been working for me.
This week I've been throwing stuff together for my redbubble store. The layout and pattern design are inspired by Jarod Maruyama who does merchandising for Disney.

The characters and shapes will also be in a sticker pack.
Working on these guys too. Wish I'd got them out for Halloween.
Personally I like the grid with more spacing as in your original upload. It is more visually pleasing to my eye. On the other hand, i do think that that one looks more like a static portfolio grid instead of a zoom or skype call, so i would get why youβd want to space it differently. If you go with closer spacing i like the 3x3 grid most π
@Michael-Angelo-Go Since you don't have a very high amount of detailing overall, I don't think it's necessary to add the nostrils. In fact it looks creepy, like she has a mushroom on her face or something...
@Mandy-Forte it's cute! But I can no longer tell she's getting ready for the beach, all I can tell it's she's getting something from a drawer in her bedroom.
